Stimulus Package full of Pork Barrel Spending (See List)

Sen. Tom Coburn is offering a GOP counterpoint to a recent White House report that extolled the early successes of the $787 billion stimulus program.

The White House report focused on 100 projects that administration officials believe demonstrate the wisdom of the massive fast-spending effort to jolt the economy back to health.

Coburn's report essentially says "Wait one minute there, fellas." It's called "A Second Opinion on the Stimulus," and it features 100 projects that the senator and his staff believe show the waste and foolishness of some stimulus spending.

An LA Times story this morning says the report "contends the Obama administration's stimulus program is fraught with waste and incompetence -- evidenced by a turtle crossing in northern Florida that will cost more than $3 million and a snafu in which thousands of Social Security checks went out to people who had died."

David Letterman issues a full Appology for Palin Joke

Photos

No footage found.

David Letterman issues a full Appology for his Palin Joke on tonights Late Show with David Letterman.  Since this is what conservatives and others have asked of him, one might concider his apology as valid.  During the unscripted racially charged joke given by Don Imus on Imus in the Morning no amont of appologising seemed to make those concerned happy.  One hopes that America has moved beyond that and will accept the apparnt heart felt appology of Mr. Letterman.  Still groups intend to picket his studios despite the appology.  "he made the joke and he can't take it back" said one in a womans group near New York.  Hopefully folks understand what the word forgiveness really means.

I told a joke that was beyond flawed, and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception" of the joke by viewers, he said during Monday's taping of "Late Night with David Letterman," according to a transcript given to Reuters.

"And since it was a joke I told, I feel that I need to do the right thing here and apologize for having told that joke," he said. "It's not your fault that it was misunderstood, it's my fault."

"I would like to apologize especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the Governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I'm sorry about it and I'll try to do better in the future," he said.

The New York Times is rporting on Todays speech to The American Medical Association (AMA) on Government Health Care Reform.  Many appear skeptical over the Government intervention on any front these days.  One should look at past and present take overs by the government and review the sucess rates of each.  Many concider Veterans medical care as an example of what Obama-care would look like.  The Militray Medical insurance systems as well as the Veterans health care turned to Quanity of care rather then Quality of care as a matter of record in the early 90s.  The auto take overs should look at AMTRAK and the Banks should look at Government accounting.   Many as does this writer has reservations on the Governments ability to do anything at resaonble costs of efficently.

WASHINGTON — President Obama took his health care overhaul proposal to one of its more skeptical audiences, telling doctors at the American Medical Association conference in Chicago that the United States is “not a nation that accepts nearly 46 million uninsured men, women and children.”

if (acm.rc) acm.rc.write();

Mr. Obama’s much-anticipated address appeared carefully calibrated to woo doctors to support — or at least, to not actively oppose — his sweeping health proposals. He also sought to reassure doctors who are skittish about his proposal for a government-run insurance plan as one option from which consumers could choose.

Report details recent North Korea terror links to Iran & Hezbolla

A CRS Report on North Korea requested to be updated by the office Senator DeMint details the the most recent links Pyongyang has to supporting terrorism. The report contains information on recent evidence that North Korea is working with terrorists groups like Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRG) and Hezbollah. North Korea was taken off of the State Sponsors of Terrorism list in October of 2008, not because they had stopped supporting terrorism, but in misplaced hopes by the Bush Administration that it would encourage Pyongyang would stop their pursuit of ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.

Last week, Senator DeMint led a group of senators that wrote to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, urging her to relist North Korea as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. They also introduced an amendment to force the Obama Administration into action, but Majority Leader Harry did not allowed a vote.

This past Sunday, Secretary Clinton was on ABC News and was asked to respond to the senators' letter:

Asked whether she had evidence of the North's support for international terrorism, Clinton said: "We're just beginning to look at it. I don't have an answer for you right now."

Here are some examples of the North Korea's latest terror links from the CRS report:

[PAGE 21] North Korea’s relationship with the IRG appears to be in two areas: (1) coordination in support for Hezbollah and (2) cooperation in ballistic missile development. Reports also suggest that North Korea cooperates with the IRG and other Iranian entities in the development of nuclear capabilities or nuclear weapons.

[PAGE 22] State Department’s Fact Sheet asserted that the IRG “has assisted Hizballah [Hezbollah] in rearming” since the 2006 war, presumably including the supply of new longer-range missiles described by the 2008 Israeli intelligence estimate.

[PAGE 23] Later in 2006, it was reported that North Korea had made an initial shipment to Iran of its new Musudan intermediate range missile. U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates stated in November 2007 that North Korea had supplied Iran with missiles with a range of 1,562 miles (probably the Musudan). North Korea and Iran reportedly carried out joint tests of the Musudan. In April 2008, several publications reported the existence of a new Iranian missile research and development site that had the same appearance as North Korea’s Taepodong missile assembly facility inside North Korea.

Several reports in 2009 described Iran seeking and receiving the assistance of North Korean missile technicians in preparing to launch a missile bearing an artificial satellite. The launch on February 2, 2009, was successful. A delegation of up to 15 Iranians, from the Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group (a company connected with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards), reportedly were observers at the site of North Korea’s test of a Taepodong II long-range missile on April 5, 2009. Officials from this company and IRG officials reportedly also had observed North Korea’s missile launches of July 4, 2006.

[PAGE 26] The Sankei Shinbun report of July 12, 2008, also described two visits of high level Iranian officials to North Korea in February and May 2008. The Iranian delegation included officials of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization and National Security Council. The apparent purpose of these visits, according to the report, was to ensure that North Korea would maintain secrecy about its nuclear collaboration with Iran in its negotiations with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill.

The Sankei Shimbun report of September 12, 2008, also described two forms of non-nuclear military cooperation between Iran and North Korea inside Syria. One of these reportedly involves North Korean scientists and military personnel working with Iranian and Syrian counterparts at a chemical weapons plant in northern Syria. The second reportedly involves a plan by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to deploy small, North Korean-made submarines in a military port in Syria.

Sammy Benoit points to the new “clarification” of Rev. Wright’s “Them Jews” jibe:

Yesterday President Obama’s former religious mentor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright said “Them Jews Aren’t Going to Let Him [Obama] Talk To Me” Today he corrected himself. When Interviewed on “Make it Plain” with Mark Thompson, he said I didn’t mean ALL Jews just Zionists.

Ohhhhhhh. Well, that clears things up!

Where is the liberal or feminist outrage when

Consider this for a moment -

Why is it there is no liberal (or feminist) outrage when:

1) Playboy runs an article defaming several prominent conservative women, fantasing about raping them.
2) Carrie Prejean is attacked for espousing a revolutionary concept - that marriage is a union between a man and woman.
3) David Letterman makes fun of Sarah Palin’s daughter, suggesting “A-rod” would impregnate her during the baseball game.

So What Do You Do, Candy Crowley?

So What Do You Do, Candy Crowley? Although she's "grown to love journalism," CNN's Candy Crowley started out with far different plansBy Brian Stelter – February 5, 2007

Candy Candy Crowley began her career as a gopher at WASH-FM in Washington, and has risen all the way to senior political correspondent at CNN. Along the road, she's worked everywhere from UPI and Mutual Broadcasting to the AP and NBC. Not bad for someone who's a writer at heart and only got into the TV business because it "fulfilled the need to have a paycheck." TVNewser's Brian Stelter caught up with Crowley to ask about her career.

Name: Candy Crowley
Position: Senior political correspondent, CNN
Company: Turner
Education: Randolph-Macon Women's College
Hometown: born in Michigan, raised in St. Louis

Did you always want to be a journalist?
I always wanted to be a writer. But the problem with being a writer is, unless you've written your first book, they don't pay you a whole lot to sit at your house and write. So this fulfilled the need to have a paycheck. And since then I've grown to love journalism.

But the first motivation was the motivation to write.
Well I always liked history papers more than I liked English essays. I was always driven toward true things, as opposed to fiction.

How'd you get your foot in the door?
My first job was at WASH-FM when it was a MetroMedia station in Washington. I just worked this minimum wage split shift thing. Basic gopher work, calling around to find out what happened the night before.

Ex-KGB agent pleads against deportation

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Yep, Aint Canada, just a friggin peach?  When a Russian family legally immigrates to Canada from Russia in the late 1990s, with the father telling Canadian immigration officials his induction into the KGB, cause as anyon know, if the KGB call you better join or else.  There are no indications the Man did anything wrong criminally than serve his country as a translator for the KGB, such as wiretaps. Every country in the world do it.  The man should be allowed to stay and not be treated as a criminal and deported.

Certainly not the case with hundreds of immigrant criminal elements currently living under false pretenses and walking our streets who are welcomed with open arms by our government who know exactly what these people are doing and continue to do.

One can only surmise if this Russian Immigrant stated, he helped Blow up a plane full of Asian passengers over the coast of Ireland (Air India), or perhaps sent their entire family to Afghanistan to join Bin Laden and kill innocent men, women, children (Khadr Family), or gunned down Vancouverittes because they wanted to control the drug trade (UN Ganga and Red Scorpions), My goodness the list is endless of the immigrant criminals who came to this country bent on destroying our culture or ensuring other cultures in far off lands cease to exist. Mind you these hundreds if not thousands of criminals in Canada were not forced to join these criminal enterprises, but joined willingly.

The man and his family make Canada their home, the man gets a decent job, not welfare, his son is an A student, Then their world comes crashing down. Flashback to the present has the Federal Government rethinking it's decision to let him stay,  but then when your as Lily White as the Driven Snow, your rights are trumped by the Rich Fabric of Multicultural Diversity Canada has come to be. And that is the real Criminal Element.

Some will think of this post as Racist, when in truth when you background check all the criminal elements allowed to stay in this Province, the facts are crystal clear!

OTTAWA — After travelling to the nation's capital from their home in Burnaby, B.C., former KGB agent Mikhail Lennikov, his wife and son overcame nerves and shyness Tuesday to plead their case for allowing a loving family to stay together and live in Canada.

The decision to try to meet face-to-face with two federal ministers who could keep the family together was spurred by a June 3 deportation order hanging over Lennikov's head.

North Korea threatens attacks on South

North Korea has threatened to attack the South following checks for weapons of mass destruction on its naval fleet.

Pyonyang was already facing internationals after the nuclear test at the weekend but this unequivocal act of war is being seen as a major escalation in the North's international relations.

The threat is thought to have been provoked after Seoul joined a US-led initiative to check vessels suspected of carrying nuclear equipment.

A North Korean army spokesman also said the country was not obliged to maintain the armistice signed at the end of the 1950-53 Korean War because Washington had ignored its responsibility as a signatory by drawing South Korea into its naval initiative.

The threat comes after South Korean media reported that Pyongyang had restarted the Yongbyon plant that makes weapons-grade plutonium.

A spokesman for the North's army said: "Any hostile act against our peaceful vessels including search and seizure will be considered an unpardonable infringement on our sovereignty and we will immediately respond with a powerful military strike."

South Korea had confirmed it was joining the naval exercise, called the Proliferation Security Initiative.

Pyongyang also appeared to have fired a third short-range missile after it added to tensions with a launch of two others.

Red Bull Cola energy drink banned for containing cocaine

Cocaine was removed from Coca Cola and replaced with Caffine in 1903.  But in a recent test in Germany the "high"ly popular RED BULL was found to contain traces of cocaine.  One might say that it is the REAL Coke.

Officials in Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Thuringia and Rhineland-Palatinate have banned the drink after health officials noted trace amounts of cocaine in cans of the cola.

"The coke is not harmful, but it violates food law," said Thomas Schulz, a spokesman for the Thuringian Ministry of Health.

The North Rhine-Westphalia Institute for Health and Work (LIGA) found traces of cocaine, from a leaf stem that had supposedly had all the cocaine extracted from it. Therefore, according to the ministry, the cola should not be be classified as a food product, but falls instead under the jurisdiction of the German Narcotics Act.

Cheney Beats Obama in Head to Head Debate on GITMO

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- In political debate, the side that keeps its arguments simple and repeats them again and again is likely to gain the advantage. It is an easier sale, especially when the topic is as scary as terrorism.

That's how Republicans got the edge in the dispute over President Barack Obama's planned closing of the Guantanamo Bay prison. And it put former Vice President Dick Cheney on a separate but almost equal platform with the president of the United States, which is a plus any time the party out of power can manage it.

Their back-to-back speeches on Thursday gave Cheney "a lot of credibility" and put Obama on the defensive, said Republican pollster David Winston.

"From a political standpoint, I think Cheney wins on points," said GOP strategist Rich Galen. Long-term, the former vice president's premier role may have a downside for the Republicans, given his 25 percent approval rating and his status as the most unpopular top figure in an unpopular administration. But Galen said that at this point, "It's either Cheney or who else. There's no who else, so you take Cheney."

In the Guantanamo argument,Obama's critics didn't worry about legalities, court decisions or complexities. They invented an argument about letting terrorists move next door to Americans.

VA Gov Poll: McDonnell Leads Three Dems

A second Virginia governor race poll released today, this one by Daily Kos/Research 2000 (May 18-20, 600 LV, MoE +/- 5%), shows Republican Bob McDonnell leading the three Democrats vying for the party nomination. The Daily Kos poll also shows Terry McAuliffe leading Brian Moran and Creigh Deeds by double digits in the Democratic primary race.

Some of the numbers in the SurveyUSA poll released earlier today were significantly different than the Daily Kos survey. Deeds' 13% in the Dem primary in this poll were half what he got in the SUSA poll, while the McAuliffe and Moran numbers were practically identical.

For the general election, McAuliffe performed the best against McDonnell in the SUSA poll, while Moran performs best in this one.

Huge TEA PARTY TAX REVOLT Win! California Vote NO on Tax Increase

The Southern California Tax Revolt Coalition is reporting that their tax revolt event on May 16 may have been a major contributing factor to Californians voting No on Tax increases to fund out of control spending in California.  The California Govrnor must now come up with budgets cuts that will coorelate more closly with revenue already generated by taxpayers.

The Southern California Tax Revolt Coalition, LLC (SoCal-TRC, LLC) is thrilled about the defeat of Proposition 1A, as well as the associated proposals IB through 1E that were presented in yesterday’s special election. We sincerely believe that the Tea Party Tax Revolt efforts made by our organization since Feb. 27th have produced the first frontline victory in the battle for scaling-back big government policies.

The result is outstanding, as the grassroots taxpayer advocacy groups (i.e., Southern California Tax Revolt Coalition) were outspent by 20 million dollars by pro-proposition forces (like the mislabeled “Budget Reform Now” organization). Fully informed citizens, especially those who attended “Tea Party” tax revolts (such as the ones we hosted Feb. 27, April 11, April 15 and May 16) and stayed informed via talk radio, Facebook, and a wide variety of new media/Internet resources, voted “NO” to the Legislature’s proposals by approximately 65% to 35% margins. Many other citizens viewed Proposition 1F in the same way that SoCal-TRC, LLC did: Since it denied state legislators a pay raise in deficit years, it seemed a sensible idea. Therefore, 1F was the only one that passed (73% of the voters saying “YES” to the measure).

Rep_ Hoekstra Responds to Pelosi Press Conf 5-14-09

Opinion-Editorial By Albert N. Milliron, Editor Politisite.com

When Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi took the Gavel to become the first woman Speaker of the House she stated that in her first one hundred days she would, “Drain the Swamp” from nearly ten years of what she called the Republican, “Culture of Corruption”. She had another thing to say I her speech, that “It Just Might Take a Woman to Clean The House” of ethics violations perpetrated by the Republicans.

Recently the Obama Administration released classified documents that contained information about Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EIT) that were used on high value enemy combatants to foil additional attempts on the security of the United states. These techniques provided actionable intelligence that kept America safe during the, “War on Terror”.

Former Vice-President Cheney and others requested that the released documents were not enough as they did not include whether the techniques worked and what intelligence was obtained by using techniques such as the controversial, “Water Boarding”. The Administration came out with a resounding no when asked. So much for transparency the American people were promised by President Obama.

The Obama Administration then came out in favor of the Justice department doing an investigation to determine if there were any laws that had been broken from the former administration all the way down to the attorneys who drafted the briefs on EIT. That is when things began to go a bit wrong for the democrats.

During a press conference last month, Pelosi stated, “In that or any other briefing we were not, I repeat, were not told that water boarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation techniques were used. They did not tell us they were used, “flat out” They said they were briefed what, “ might be used”. She further related that the, “CIA is in the business of deception”.

Nancy Pelosi has maintained that she is opposed to waterbaording calling it torture. But in 2002 while she was the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, she fully briefed on (AIT) including water boarding that was performed on Abu Zubaydah. Others at the same meeting seem to have a different view of what was disclosed at the meeting she attended.

The question arises, If Speaker Pelosi was so against advanced integration techniques, why did she not go on record as being against the techniques in those briefings. Those concerns do not appear anywhere in the documentation. On the House floor, Pelosi related that she was able to voice her differences under the direction of chairman Congressman Porter Goss and moved that the appropriations be approved by the full House.

With all this, Americans are still waiting for the Swamp to be drained and the House to be cleaned. The most Ethical Congress in History is still lacking. Speaker Pelosi continued with the mantra that Republican operated under a, “Culture of corruption”. The writer sees little to suggest that the democrats have done anything to bring our government back to the people with open disclosure and defrocking those who violate the very oaths they affirm when entering into public service.

Today, Many side of the issue are calling for Nancy Pelosi’s removal, but the Political strategist part of me wonders why the Obama Administration would put Democrat against Democrat with his full authority to diminish Speaker Pelosi. Why many are calling for her resignation since there is a vast chasm between what the CIA and others are saying and when Speaker Pelosi says happened in those meetings, I feel that political expediency to “get rid” of the speaker to install one who will be more committed to the President. While we all hope that our Government works honestly and for the people. The real issue is pushing agendas and gaining power.

The Obama administration now has both houses of congress and will soon have power in the judicial branch. He is working quickly while he is still a popular President to get his agendas presented and passed before the 2010 election. With Pelosi out of the way, he could have a weak speaker who will just allow his full agenda to pass with little or no debate as was the case on the stimulus package. The Obama Motto is, “Never allow a crisis go to waste”. The Pelosi affair is another crisis the Administration will use to his advantages to tie up all branches of government to push his socialist agenda.

Former Vic-President Cheney and others requested that the released documents were not enough as they did not include whether the techniques worked and what intelligence was obtained by using techniques such as the controversial, “Water Boarding”.

During a press conference last month, Pelosi stated, "In that or any other briefing we were not, I repeat, were not told that water boarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation techniques were used.

Today, Many side of the issue are calling for Nancy Pelosi's removal, but the Political strategist part of me wonders why the Obama Administration would put Democrat against Democrat with his full authority to diminish Speaker Pelosi.

Obama's Musical Cabinet Chairs

I Guess Moving Chairs Around and Lobbyists in the White House was not Such a Bad Idea

By Albert N. Milliron, Editor, Politisite.com, Iron Mill Interactive Media, Inc

This writer followed Barack Obama around the campaign trail with teleprompter in toe throughout the southern United States. During that time, three major themes rang out from his podiums” Regarding John McCain as a presidential candidate, “Washington is broken and moving chairs around (making McCain President) would not be the answer. Washington needed new blood and John nor other congressman would fit the bill.

The other major theme was that Lobbyist had destroyed the power of the individual citizens power in the electorate process. Lobbyist Obama, said would have no part in his Administration.

He related that he would not return to the failed policies of the Bush Administration. Obama had a plan and it didn't include Bushes economic policies. Trickle down economics did not work and Obama would allow the Bush Error Tax cuts to expire. He added that ninety-five percent of Americans would see a tax cut in their pay checks.

He told onlookers that on every bill that was presented in congress that they would be placed on the Internet for five days, so the American people could view what the Congress has adopted. He then related they would be free of pork Barrel spending as he would go line by line on each legislation and would veto legislation that contained pork and special interest spending. He committed to open and transparent government and no more secrecy.

One additional theme he emphasized on the campaign trail was that he would be bipartisan in his approach to solve the countries problems. So far President Obama has not consulted with Republicans but has rather pushed his political agenda from the left. When the TARP program was presented there were no House Republicans that voted for the measure because the bill was not read, nor posted on the Internet, and had nearly 9000 earmarks that we included in the stimulus package.

Most of those measures were pay offs to the left that had no place in a package that was designed to stimulate the economy. Here are some of where your stimulus money will go:

  1. 4 billion for community activist programs such as ACORN,

  2. 400 million for global warming (oh I mean Climate Change) research,

  3. 50 million for National Endowment of the Arts,

  4. 2.4 billion to demonstrate “carbon capture and sequestration technologies”

  5. 50 million in grants to fund “arts projects and activities in the non-profit arts sector

  6. 8 billion for high-speed railway (including an earmark for an Los Angeles to Las Vegas)

  7. A water park in Miami Florida

  8. Bringing in Tons of Sand to Sandy Hook, NJ

  9. Then the most stimulating of them all, The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will study the link between drinking and having sex among homosexuals in Argentina.

The additional reason that there was not bipartisan support is that the President promised that the bill will have ample time for each Member to read the provision and debate it. Since it was toughed as a crisis legislation there could b no time for legislators to actually read the provisions in the 1073 page bill. Consequently the bill was not posted on the Internet, it was available for less then 25 hours to read a bill that had thousands of pages and was passed without congressman actually reading the legislation. What happened then? Executives from AIG had provisions for million dollar bonuses that no congressman save Senator Dodd and the Treasury Secretary had a clue that those bonus would be paid out under previous agreements. When the provisions of the AIG Bonus came to the public eye, congressman threw their arms up casting blame on AIG Executives simply because their Didn't read their own bill. The bottom line here is the Wall Street Journals annalists estimated that just 12% of the package could be considered stimulus.

So what happened in Obama's first weeks as President. He moves a few chairs around. He tapped Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. Then he adds former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, a presidential candidate, as The Secretary of U.S. Department of Agriculture. Then there is Attorney General Eric Holder who served as Deputy Attorney General in the Clinton Administration. Another Political Insider Governor Richardson had to withdraw due to a fell “Play for play” scandal. The list continues with Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Senator Ken Salazar (D-CO) Obama's choice for secretary of Interior. And to sum up it all up without pointing out the entire Washington “outsider” cabinet, Timothy Geithner who is Obama's choice to head the Treasury which include the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Geithner was the chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York since 2003. He is the brain our country could not do without due to the bank crisis that was doomed to lead to catastrophe. A cabinet member so good that he blamed misunderstanding tax software program Turbo-Tax, designed for a teenager to complete his taxes, and failed to pay hundreds of thousand of dollars of your tax money.

Washington is broke Obama related to crowds across the country and moving chairs around was not the answer. New blood was needed to fix Washington. So he hired Washington insiders for his cabinet members and half of Clinton's former staff.

I don't see the “Change we can believe in” here. In fact it looks more like moving chairs around the deck of the Titanic following our economic iceberg. Politics as usual is more the word.
