And people complain about the high cost of living now, certainly a princely sum of 40 shillings (about cents) for discovering Canada seems a ludicrous sum for one man to take a historical journey to New Founde Land. One wonders what his wife said upon his return to Britian when after months at sea he hands over his paycheque to his wife who must have said "WTF" You're an Idiot!

After unveiling the identity of an English mariner who led a forgotten expedition to North America in 1499 -- just two years after John Cabot's history-making voyage to Newfoundland in 1497 -- British researchers have found fresh evidence showing what William Weston was paid for his role in the discovery of Canada: 40 shillings.
