Since Bush lifted the Oil Drilling Ban oil has droped to 90 dollars a barrel

Since Bush lifted the Oil Drilling Ban oil has droped to 90 dollars a barrel

NEW YORK (AFP) — Crude oil nosedived below 90 dollars a barrel Monday as deepening global financial turmoil and plunging stock markets raised fears about slowing demand for energy.

New York's main contract, light sweet crude for November, plunged 6.07 dollars to close at 87.81 dollars a barrel.

In London, Brent North Sea crude for delivery in November tumbled 6.57 dollars to settle at 83.68 dollars a barrel.

Earlier the two futures contracts had fallen to lows last seen in early February, at 87.56 dollars in New York and 83.36 dollars in London.

Crude futures contracts skidded as global stock markets tumbled after a 700-billion-dollar US financial rescue package signed into law Friday failed to calm investors' nerves about frozen global credit flows.

"The oil market is trying to find out exactly how it fits into this new world economic of bailouts and global economic turmoil. Oil is not the best hedge against a market meltdown and China and India (demand) will slow," said Phil Flynn at Alaron Trading.

Crude prices have slumped about 40 percent in three months since they struck record highs of above 147 dollars in July.

'Stealing Ohio's Election', Nonpartisan registers encourage Obama Votes

To the people of the great state of Ohio, welcome to day five of "they're stealing your election."

As you might have heard, the Ohio Democrat secretary of state decided to bend the law and allow a special week of absentee voting jammed together with a special week of instant voter registration.

So in Ohio, hundreds of outside special volunteers have arrived with buses and they're swooping down on college campuses and homeless shelters and picking people up to go register and vote all in the same day.

Now these are supposed to be special nonpartisan volunteers who drive these new voters to the polls. But look what our friends at Palestra, The College Network, found when they interviewed these special nonpartisan election volunteers.

(START VIDEO CLIP)

TIFFANY WILSON, PALESTRA.NET: Are you encouraging them to vote for Obama?

UNIDENTIFIED VOLUNTEER: Oh yes, really, I am. He's like a brother right there.

(LAUGHTER)

TIFFANY WILSON, PALESTRA.NET: You tell them to vote for –-

UNIDENTIFIED VOLUNTEER: Yes, uh-huh, yes, for Obama, yes.

TIFFANY WILSON, PALESTRA.NET: You do tell them?

UNIDENTIFIED VOLUNTEER: Yes, I do.

TIFFANY WILSON, PALESTRA.NET: And what do they say when you say "vote Obama"?

UNIDENTIFIED VOLUNTEER: They say "yes... yes, OK."

TIFFANY WILSON, PALESTRA.NET: So you're going out here to get votes for Obama, not just to get people to vote, but to actually get them to vote for Obama?

UNIDENTIFIED VOLUNTEER: No, no, no. Just to get them to vote.

(LAUGHTER)

OK, alright, I've got to go.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Whoa! Here's a news flash Ohio: this is going on all over your state. And who discovered it? Palestra.net, The College Network, not the big networks.

And why not? Same reason I'm telling you this story now, because the big nets don't want you to know that this is a special week in Ohio, called "stealing an election."

Dow Drops 369.88 Points, Below 10000, Lowest level in 4 years, down 3.5%

Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Stocks tumbled around the world, the euro fell the most against the yen since its debut and oil dropped below $90 a barrel as the yearlong credit market seizure caused bank bailouts to spread through Europe. Government bonds rallied.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 3.4 percent, falling below 10,000 for the first time since October 2004. Marathon Oil Corp. tumbled 11 percent, while Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. fell 7.1 percent. The MSCI Emerging Markets Index headed for its steepest drop in at least two decades as exchanges in Russia and Brazil were forced to halt trading after declines of more than 10 percent. Europe's Dow Jones Stoxx 600 Index had its biggest intraday decline since 1987.

The euro weakened the most against the yen since 1999 after the German government and state banks were forced to pledge $68 billion to rescue Hypo Real Estate Holding AG. Crude dropped 39 percent from its record on July 11 as the global economy slowed. Investors seeking the safety of government bonds pushed yields on two-year Treasury notes to 1.5 percent, 50 basis points below the Federal Reserve's main interest rate.

``It's like a fire,'' said Emmanuel Soupre, a fund manager at Neuflize OBC Asset Management in Paris, which oversees the equivalent of $33 billion. ``It's easier to extinguish five minutes after the start. Now we're about an hour into it. We have to act quickly to assure the continuity of the financial system to avoid an irreversible contamination of the entire economy.''

BHP Billiton Ltd. slid 7.8 percent and UBS AG lost 10 percent as commodities producers and banks dropped the most in the MSCI World Index.

The MSCI World lost 5.9 percent to 1,071.11 at 3:18 p.m. in London as all 10 industry groups decreased. National markets in China, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea and the U.K. fell more than 4 percent.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index sank 3.9 percent. The Fed said today it ``stands ready'' to foster ``liquid money market conditions.''

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Wow, What a Bargain, Who knew a Baby's life was only worth 50 months in jail? This Murderer got a slap on the wrist for this horrific crime for the brutal killing of his newborn son of 6 months.

Only in Canada, Only in Canada. But then this is Toronto we are talking about, where it seems anything goes, including Life!

Baby killer allowed to stay in Canada Judge orders new hearing for deportation

By TOM GODFREY, SUN MEDIA

A Toronto man who brutally shook to death his six-month-old son has won a new hearing after a five-year battle to block his deportation to Guyana. Ramnaresh Katwaru, 33, of Tuxedo Crt., was jailed for 50 months in August 2002 for the death of his son Darshand, who died in February 1996 of a swollen brain. T

he 10-pound preemie struggled for life before passing away. Katwaru, who has undergone two manslaughter trials for the crime, has been fighting deportation from Canada since 2003.

He has filed two successful appeals to the Federal Court of Canada that have prevented him from being kicked out.

The court two weeks ago stalled another deportation bid after ruling an immigration enforcement officer didn't consider all the evidence in Katwaru's deportation, or if there was a threat against him when he's returned to Guyana.

"The enforcement officer failed to fully consider all the evidence ... including the applicant's fear of being at risk if returned to Guyana," Madame Justice Elizabeth Heneghan said in her Sept. 17 decision.

Killer hiding in Canada: FBI

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

While it is nice and dandy to report a killer among us, a photo certainly would increase the chances of capturing this murderer a hundred fold. Certainly a problem with Police and Media who report a criminal but have no photos in which to go on.   I went to the FBI most wanted and posted the info and photos for Now Public Readers. You would think anyone serious in capturing this individual would have done the same.  If this murderer is in Canada, let's hope a plea of "Can I stay here" will be forthcoming, followed by I didn't do it, I tells ya, I was framed!

Killer hiding in Canada:FBI

By TOM GODFREY

An accused killer on the run from California police may have fled to Canada hidden in the back of a truck, the FBI says. Amandeep Singh Dhami, 24, is believed to be hiding with friends or relatives in Sikh communities in the Toronto-area or in B.C.

U.S. police said Dhami may have been smuggled across the border in a semi-trailer truck with cargo and is using Canada as a base to make plans to flee to India, where his family has connections. Dhami and his friend, Gurpreet Singh Gosal, 24, allegedly entered the grounds of the Sacramento Sikh Society last Aug. 31 and fired several shots as a cricket tournament was in progress, police said. Parmjit Singh, 26, was shot multiple times, and pronounced dead at the scene.

A bystander was also injured in the shooting. Dhami, who is facing charges of murder and attempted murder, is profiled on a "Wanted by the FBI" website that warns he "should be considered armed and dangerous." Tattooed on his arms are the words "loyalty," "Soorma," "Punjabi" and the number "916," the FBI said.

CAUTION Amandeep Singh Dhami is wanted for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of one man and the wounding of another. On August 31, 2008, Dhami, and an accomplice who is in custody, allegedly entered a sporting arena in Sacramento, California, and fired several shots. The one victim died at the scene, while the second victim was critically wounded. The shooting apparently stemmed from a feud. A local arrest warrant was issued on September 2, 2008, and Dhami was charged with homicide. Hunt on for 10 suspects in swarming-stabbing: Toronto Violence

Certainly again, something to think about this election day, we need a adhered and strict crime bill, not liberal kissy face justice currently enjoyed by criminals in this country.

Hunt on for 10 suspects in swarming-stabbing

By DON PEAT, SUN MEDIA

A 16-year-old stabbed in a brazen downtown brawl remained in hospital yesterday but is expected to survive. Toronto Police are searching for 10 suspects in the dust-up which happened early Friday night, a block north of Yonge-Dundas Square, just steps from where Jane Creba was shot in 2005.

"This is not a random act," Staff Sgt. Jim Gibson said yesterday. "There is some indication of prior contact." The teen told officers he was walking near the corner of Yonge and Gould Sts. when 10 men approached. Two of them tried to talk to him and a fight erupted, police said.

Due to the ongoing investigation, police wouldn't reveal exactly what the men were arguing about. When police arrived around 7:45 p.m. they found the teen bleeding heavily from wounds to his neck, body and head. They still aren't sure what he was stabbed with.

This is the third violent incident in recent memory along the stretch of Yonge St. between Elm and Gould Sts. Just across the street from Friday's stabbing, Creba was shot on Dec. 26, 2005.

A year later, in front of the now defunct Sam the Record Man store, a gunman wounded a man. Yesterday police released sparse descriptions of the swarming crowd.

The first suspect is described as white, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 with a medium build. The second is described only as Asian. There is no description for the remaining eight men.

Parents lose son to trigger-happy petty thief: Toronto Hangun Violence

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

The Grieving family says it all, the Murderer (s) most likely will spend two years in jail. One would hope a wake up call is in order when previous deterrents are not working, and the Conservative Crime Bill if it had been enforced may have prevented this tragic scenario. Why?

Because as in most Gang and Guns violence, many times this is not the first time the murderer has had a run in with the law, and maybe time in prison may have been a lesson.

Who knows, but one thing that may be certain NDP, Liberals historically Soft on Crime will be giving this families home a wide berth come electioneering in this troubled neighbourhood.

Parents lose son to trigger-happy petty thief

By TAMARA CHERRY, SUN MEDIA

Davorin and Vesna Cikovic may as well have been hit by the same bullet that killed their son -- after all, they said yesterday, their lives ended with his.

Boris Cikovic, 17, was gunned down in a seemingly senseless act of violence Friday night.

And for what? A $2 bag and a T-shirt. Cikovic, a bright student and avid athlete at Scarlett Heights Entrepreneurial Academy, was hanging out with a group of friends in Buttonwood Park, near Royal York Rd. and Eglinton Ave. When they were approached by thugs around 10:30 p.m.

The thugs demanded whatever the teens had. Boris handed over a cheap bag his mom had given him. Inside it was the T-shirt.

He wasn't the kind of guy to think one of those thugs might have a gun, his parents said. When he tried to get his bag back, one of them shot him in the chest. "He eventually passed away in the hospital," his mother said. "But he basically passed away in the hands of his best friend. 'Please wake up, man. Please wake up.' "

Victory impossible in Afghanistan: Top Brit

Gee, one would have thought the Russia Invasion of Afghanistan would have been a lesson in futility, War is not a Rambo Movie, as many Soldiers soon learn. Though making a deal with the Taliban sounds nice, one should not hold their breath it would do any good.

Not to mention Soldiers who died trying to make a difference in the lives of Afghanis, now to be left at the mercy of the Taliban.

Commander says deal with Taliban might be solution

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LONDON -- The senior British commander in Afghanistan says that a decisive military victory there is impossible and the Taliban may well be part of a long-term solution for the country.

The Sunday Times newspaper quotes Brig.-Gen. Mark Carleton-Smith as saying that the alliance is not going to win the war.

He says the issue now is about reducing the war to a manageable level of insurgency that's not a strategic threat and can be managed by the Afghan army.

Carleton-Smith says the alliance may well leave Afghanistan while there is still a low but steady rural insurgency.

He also said a deal with the Taliban might be on the table.

Men won't take the fall when women don't orgasm

By STEVE TILLEY,Sun Media

A little boy walks up to his mom and says, “Mommy, what’s an orgasm?” “I don’t know, dear,” she replies.

“Ask your father.” An oldie but a goodie, that one.

And like most jokes, it’s funny ’cause it has its roots in truth. It’s generally easy for men to have orgasms, whether with a partner or on our own.

But when it comes to helping our female loved ones get to O-town, our attitude is either shoulder-shrugging indifference or enlightened equality, depending on how you look at the results of the Great Canadian Male Sex Survey.

Sex: Men yearn but not earn Survey says they want sex, but won't do much to get it
By STEVE TILLEY, Sun Media

Ah, men. Can’t live with us, can’t make babies without us. We’re lazy, self-absorbed, obsessed with sex (but not to the extent that we’ll pay attention to our partner’s needs) and the embodiment of every bad male cliche there is.

But we’re also sensitive, caring, interested in sex (and willing to try new things to satisfy our women) and the exception to every negative male stereotype out there.

Man! Who knew we were so contradictory and complex?

Sex Graph According to a new Sun Media-Leger Marketing Great Canadian Male Sex Survey that looked at the sexual habits, attitudes and concerns of Canadian dudes, men defy some of the labels that our gender gets slapped with by Hollywood, the media and – yes – even the fairer sex.

A sexual predator is living in Vancouver.

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

So if he is at a High Risk to re-offend, why the Christ is he allowed to walk or should I say Stalk amongst us?

Certainly another case where Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harpers needs a majority this election in order to Ram Home his Crime Bill, despite his political opponents who state it is too harsh. Harsh? Try telling that to the women this guy assaults and abducts!

Here is his photo Ladies of Vancouver and the Public, if you see him walking down a Vancouver street give him a wide berth, cause it looks like our Court System isn't bothering when it comes to protecting the public, as per friggin usual.

One wonders if he frequents the Oakridge Shopping Mall, where shootings are frequent lately?

I am sure some of these Gang Members must have sisters, daughters, girlfriends, wives and mothers, as I am sure Vancouver Police would not be putting in any overtime to solve his demise if it ever happened. http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/story.html?id=692187ea-3c81-4936-8f2a-949066261cde Sexual predator in Vancouver

He has used ski masks to conceal his identity. Williams is white, five feet eight inches tall, 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes and a scar on his right hand.

Vancouver police are warning the public about Lorne Michael Williams, 37, who they say poses a risk to adolescent and adult women.

Williams is living in a downtown Vancouver halfway house after having served time for two counts of sexual assault with a weapon, two counts of attempted kidnapping, two counts of disguise with intent, assault with a weapon and threatening.

Claims of Afghan soldiers raping boys prompts Canadian investigation

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

After reading this, one can understand why some protestors wish Afghanistan and the Middle East should be left to their own devices, when apparently even our allies are as brutal as the Taliban they are trying to destroy.

Atrocities against men women and particularly children will never see the Light of Day in an International courts as most turn a blind eye to those who suffer at the hands of their supposed protectors.

We will have a Canadian Investigation, but I feel it will just turn into a "Please do not do that again", we are really powerless to do anything in a Country when we try to impose our own moral and political will.

Claims of Afghan soldiers raping boys prompts Canadian investigation

David Pugliese, Canwest News Service Published: Friday, October 03, 2008

The Canadian Forces will launch a board of inquiry to look into allegations that soldiers' complaints about Afghan troops and police raping boys were ignored by the military leadership.

Military police have also launched an investigation into the same incidents. The issue surfaced in the summer after media reports detailed soldiers' concerns about sexual abuse of boys at the hands of Afghan personnel.

In June, the Toronto Star reported that, in late 2006, a Canadian soldier had heard an Afghan soldier raping a young boy at one of the outposts near Kandahar.

The soldier later saw the injuries the boy sustained, including seeing his lower intestines falling out of his body, a sign of trauma from anal rape.

The soldier, who now suffers from post-traumatic stress syndrome, originally described the assault to a closed-door meeting of a parliamentary committee on national defence in May.

Police link slain gangster to criminal killed five weeks ago: Vancouver's Oakridge Mall Shooting

Police link slain gangster to criminal killed five weeks ago

Kim Bolan, Vancouver Sun

Published: Saturday, October 04, 2008

VANCOUVER - A gangster slain at Oakridge Mall on Thursday was a close associate of James Edward O'Toole, another criminal shot to death on Commercial Drive five weeks ago.

Vancouver Police Insp. Mike Porteous said Rakesh Ratnam Naidu was well known to police as being linked to both O'Toole and Sammy Chan, whose gangster brother Tommy was shot in the head at the Richard's on Richards nightclub in May 2006.

Porteous said it was too early to pinpoint the motive in the brazen mid-afternoon shooting in a busy mall parking lot.

"There is clearly some ongoing gang conflict," Porteous said. "A couple of recent gang murders are guys that hung together, so something is going on."

The Vancouver Sun was told by several sources that Naidu, 34, associated with the Independent Soldiers (IS), a major drug-trafficking gang in Metro Vancouver.

But Porteous said that while Naidu may know IS members, his own crew was headed by O'Toole and Chan.

"If he ran into the IS in a bar, he might have a drink with them and he knows them. But he is not a member of the IS," Porteous said. "He is associated to two recent murder victims - one being James O'Toole ... and the other being Tommy Chan. Those two were both part of the group he ran with."

The message should be loud and clear to anyone involved in gangs or attracted to the action, Porteous said.

"These guys either end up dead or going to jail for a long time, even though they think they are living a glamourous lifestyle," he said.

One-year sentence shocks child porn distributorL Manitoba

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Shocked? Only a sentence of one year in prison? Certainly is shocking to me, when Justices profess to crackdown on Child Porn!

Let's just put it this way, both sides are shocked by this decision, but then are we really, really surprised when the Government of Manitoba and Premier Gary Doer (photo inset) obviously "Don't" when it comes to the seriousness of Child Porn, but then Manitoba is run by the New Democratic Party, where it even seems Criminals get a Hug, judging by this slap on the wrist!

One-year sentence shocks child porn distributor

By DEAN PRITCHARD, SUN MEDIA

The Winnipeg Sun It was a moment a long time in coming, and when it did, Phillip Stiff was dumbfounded.

The 30-year-old Winnipeg man gasped in disbelief yesterday as a judge sentenced him to one year in prison for distributing child pornography.

The sentencing came six years after police caught Stiff in possession of one of the largest and most meticulously organized collections of child pornography the province has ever seen.

Judge Rocky Pollack roasted both the Crown and defence for the lengthy road to sentencing, which was blamed on a variety of factors including changes in lawyers, slow disclosure and new charges that were ultimately stayed.

Stiff was arrested after police in Europe launched an investigation that led to a porn collector in Victoria who had records of a computer correspondence with Stiff.

Police seized a computer from his Burrows Avenue home containing more than 88,000 still images of child pornography and 575 movie clips.

The collection was organized by category and included images of children involved in "posing," extreme sex acts and bondage.

Secret arms deals going to trial: French Toast!

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

One can envision US Screenwriters upon reading this over the wire, frantically trying to figure out how to get a hastily written action movie script to Brad and Angie to do a Movie on this story, in what seems like a weird combo Watergate - Iran Contra affair.

Bush must be relieved to know, if this Hits the Fan, it will deflect some attention away from him as the World Derides him as a warmonger, when the French are going to be literally French Toast, as the trial and World opinion develops.

The Rwanda Massacre had many French allies from France protecting those Government leaders complicit in the Rwanda Massacre by offering the Killers safe passage out of Rwanda with French officials. One can surmise this oil for arms is just the tip of the iceberg, now seen melting really, really fast as more info comes available in this French Soap Opera or Terror.

Secret arms deals going to trial

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PARIS -- The 468-page French indictment makes seamy reading: Secret arms deals feeding bloodshed in an oil-rich African country.

Envelopes of cash changing hands in a Paris mansion. A cast of defendants ranging from a debt-ridden tycoon to a Chinese opera singer.

Piece by piece, judicial investigators have spent seven years assembling a searing accusation that penetrates the shadows of a dirty global trade. Kalashnikov rifles and Soviet-made land mines poured by the planeful into Angola as it fought a civil war.

In exchange, Angolan oil flowed to multinational companies. And a pair of savvy negotiators allegedly reaped millions of undeclared dollars in profits.

Their stacks of cash were then doled out to French and Angolan officials given secret code names, in exchange for political and commercial favours, according to the version laid out by French authorities. On Monday, the case goes to trial in a Paris court.

Moscow joins war on piracy: Mogadishu, Somalia Update Oct 06-08

Update: Oct 06-08Barry Artiste Op/Ed

The Pirates of Somalia, stating to the Superpowers that they will fight to the last man to hold off attacks from the Ukrainian ship they boarded, may not understand that if Superpowers tire of the game, may just sink the whole Ship to send a message to the pirates. That is what I would do. besides it would make a nice reef.

Pirates hold all the cards off Somalia

Keeping superpowers at bay

By ELIZABETH A. KENNEDY, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NAIROBI -- With a Russian frigate closing in and a half-dozen U.S. warships within shouting distance, the pirates holding a tanker off Somalia might seemed doomed to wave the white flag.

But that's not how it works in Somalia, where anybody with a gun controls the streets and where every public institution has crumbled.

The 11-day standoff aboard the Ukrainian MV Faina raises the question: How can a bunch of criminals from one of the most wretched countries on Earth face off with some of the world's richest and well-armed superpowers?

"They have enough guns to fight for another 20 years," Ted Dagne, a Somalia analyst in Washington, said. "And there is no way to win a battle when the other side is in a suicidal mindset."

"If we are attacked, we will defend ourselves until every last one of us dies," Sugule Ali, a pirate aboard the Faina, said over satellite phone from the ship, which is carrying 33 tanks, military weapons and 21 Ukrainian, Latvian and Russian hostages. One Russian has died of illness.

The pirates are demanding $20 million ransom.

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Russia will be joining the US fleet off Somalia , hopefully to fire a shot across the Bow of Somalian Piracy. Russia, unlike the US, Russia is not under the watchful Left Wing Eyes or World Opinion or UN restraints to treat the Somalia Pirates with Kid Gloves, as the US Warships continue to circle the Ukrainian Frigate in a standoff as Somalia Pirates are demanding 20 million dollars ransom.

To date there is nary a shot fired by the US Navy, but in my Opinion, as I know something about Russian Navy Members, this will certainly be different tune once the Russian Navy arrives who may say to Hell with paying any Ransom to the Somalia Pirates and Bomb the Ukrainian Frigate into Davy Jones Locker to send a point home to these Pirates once and for all that actually it is bot the USA, but Russia who never negotiate. Gotta love the Russkies, cause when push comes to shove, well........let's face it,  sometimes there isn't an opportunity for you even to push.

Moscow joins war on piracy

Sat, October 4, 2008

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

MOGADISHU -- Six U.S. warships circled a hijacked ship off Somalia and a Russian frigate headed toward the standoff yesterday.

At the same time, Russia called for naval forces gathering in the area to co-ordinate their efforts against piracy.

The Somali government has given foreign powers the freedom to use force against the pirates holding the Faina and its 20 crew members, including two Russians.

The Ukrainian ship is anchored near the Somali town of Hobyo. 'ALL NECESSARY MEANS' Russia, whose warship is not expected for several days, has used commando tactics to end several hostage situations on its own soil, but hundreds of those hostages have died.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said yesterday Russia and other nations will act on the basis of a UN resolution that authorized countries to enter Somalia's territorial waters and use "all necessary means" to stop piracy

Canadian Election Promises: A Party of Lies and Deception?

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Politicians of all Political stripes during Televised Debates, offer constituents the moon in their quest to get to political office.

Election Promises  made without Cost Breakdowns smf projections on how our money is to be spent and who will benefit, should scare the Beejeezus out of  Taxpayers, that is like giving your Teen a credit card with an unlimited spending limit.

It's nice for the Green Party and the NDP to promise to spend our Taxes on  their self perceived  Ideology, if that is an Ideology shared by their supporters, but to allow them free access to our money without a clear cost breakdown on how that money will be spent and or paid back to taxpayers is insane.

The Liberal Green Shift promise for example, Dion gives no clear example how it is going to reduce out taxes.  Much like the BC Liberals much hated Carbon Tax that was supposed to be Revenue Neutral, Neutral for who? Cause it certainly doesn't look Neutral when I look at my paycheque?

As I have said before, the Liberal, Greens, and NDP all want to stop Corporate Tax breaks for Businesses and Corporations, the same Corporates and Businesses which hire taxpayers to pay for all these grandiose plans they want to implement.

Soooooooooooooooooooo, where will the money come from? Just imagine if you will when the corporate tax cuts stop if they are elected, when Companies who rely on these corporate tax cuts to invest in technology, like Manufacturing and hiring people, are forced to lay off thousands if not millions of Canadians if there is no tax incentive to keep them in this country, when other countries will certainly step up to the plate and offer manufacturing and other companies in Canada, tax incentives to relocate to their country?

As I said, and if you read their election promises, they don't tell us those ideas of getting the money to fulfil those promises any other way,  unless they think they can just pop over to the Canadian Mint on Sussex Drive and Print a half trillion dollars.

Yeah, that'll be great for the3 economy and the deficit. Sometimes you just want to take a Bat of Common Sense and Whack them over the friggin head!

Most spending promises spread over a 4 year period or more to ensure a second term.  As most anyone knows, once elected, sometimes it seems promises made much like a "Televised One Night Stand" leave many voters sitting by the phone on a Friday night, waiting for that "Promised call" after the Election. Promises that may never come and the  "Wet Spot of Betrayal" remains as a reminder, as we sleep on those sheets for the next four years.

That should scare many, or am I the only one who sees through all this Cock and Bull!

Made-in-China pretzels recalled in Ontario: Canada

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Boy this story is sure getting old, almost two years since the last report, it seems everything you slam down your Gullet comes from China, and worries about obesity killing you, pales in comparison to what the long term damage Chemicals which seems to be every Chinese Food suppliers send your way for that Low, Low Price Consumers demand, whether it kills you or not.

Melamine, an industrial chemical, in infants can lead to kidney failure.

To say the Chinese Government is not complicit in all this, is like saying, Saddam Hussein is the New Messiah and the Second Coming. Governments and Manufacturers in North America, Europe and other countries who continually allow this to happen endlessly to us, the consumer are just as complicit when proof positive shows it wont end EVER when profit is the bottom line!

Short of writing to your politician or manufacturer, perhaps a Nationwide Boycotting and Letter writing campaigns may be a step in the right direction when Manufacturers start losing customers and money.

Who knows what the long term health effects on us and our children will be, for one, it wont be pretty, that is a given.

Just wait till Halloween, one can be certain Candies are next on the Health Hit List.

Mother makes a plea to keep her gay son from harm: British Columbia

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

So much for British Columbia being the epicenter of Peace and Love of Diversity, perhaps only when it suits them.

Yep, Hypocrisy rules, everything from Environmental TreeHugging, Gays, Multicultural Diversity, all well and good, until some take exception when it becomes personal or hits them in the pocketbook.

Recent events last week when a Gay man was violently assaulted in a GAY DISTRICT!!! certainly speaks Volumes on tolerance by Idiots who make it their Mission to seek and destroy those whose lifestyle of Thuggery conflicts with Gay Values.

Many TV shows portray Gay lifestyle in a positive way, yet many prefer to dwell on the sexual aspects instead of two people whose love is paramount.  South Park, Queer Eye being positive ways to reach many viewers.

We have laws meant to protect everyone, yet many see it as a toothless when Courts only act is public outrage demands it, I surmise this is the way it is in schools, with parents pitted against students and teachers.

Class brings Susan Harman hope for basic human rights

Pete McMartin, Vancouver Sun columnist Published: Thursday, October 02, 2008

VANCOUVER - Here we are today, 40 years after the Stonewall riots, 35 years after the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its official list of mental disorders, 30 years after Denmark became the first government to recognize civil unions between gay and lesbian couples, and five years after Queer Eye For the Straight Guy made regular moisturizing acceptable to heterosexual males, and we here in B.C. are still agonizing over the issue of offering our schoolchildren courses that discuss, among other things, the idea that it's unacceptable to beat the crap out of people whose sexual orientation may be different than their own.

I sometimes wonder if "B.C." refers to the dinosaurs still roaming around out here.

This time, we must go a little east to find the Jurassic: In Abbotsford this week, the school board decided to withhold a senior-grade high school elective course entitled Social Justice 12, pending a review.

Social Justice 12, approved by the Ministry of Education just this August, is the first course in the province to include discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity, though sex isn't its only focus.

Canada Student Visa Fraud Rampant: Ya Think?

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Okay, here is another Breaking Exclusive for the No Sh*t Sherlock Files! Hard to believe Media are just figuring this out now!

One only need to drive through the city of Vancouver or the lower mainland cities and towns to see what seems to amount to boiler room diploma mills "University of You name it", storefronts, with big signs posted on buildings or in Shopping Malls, with storefronts that were most likely previous Payday Loan outlets.

One can view any Newspaper advertising dubious University College of International Studies etc, etc. Many of these students who come here do not even speak English, soooooooooo, that would be a first hint, lost on our Provincial and Federal Government Visa Officers.

How could these Students study here with no or little English skills? Oh wait we have a slew of English as a Second Language (ESL) Schools in British Columbia, almost as numerous as Starbucks.  But more importantly the unscrupulous  Visa Consultants abroad are more than willing to take a families money in the hopes of sending their Child overseas, regardless if the schools is legit or an apartments size University of Dubious Studies.

It used to be that you could not call yourself an institute of higher education, if you were not part of a legitimate post secondary organization, and the "edu" at the end of your Webpage or Email was one way to legitimize your institution in one way. There were other forms of a Institute to verify it's legitimacy, which is lost on many overseas who are not savy enough to figure it out.

There were numerous ESL schools here closed down for taking Visa Students money, once they arrived to find the schools curriculum severely lacking or non existent courses.

Degrees upon Graduation, will get you a job with a paper hat in this country. Many of these so called institutes of learning were closed for taking students money and offering little else, but a scam.

Funny thing, one University that is absent and on par with these so called Paper Hat Institutions of higher learning and ESL Schools would be MacDonald University, where Dean McHappy Meal will give you a fair shake.

Families in other lands who scrape and save for decades to better the life of their child soon find once in Canada, the school is not as IVY League as the brochure or webpage displays, and the Degree the student hopes to complete and bring home may not be worth the Fast Food napkin it is printed on.

But it is common knowledge in Canada that many Institutes of higher learning had Visa Students of Convenience who would use the Student Visa Scam Ruse as they would never get their foot past Canada's Border and Airport security otherwise.

One would think if a Terrorist Organization or Criminal Enterprise need entry into North America, a Student Visa is the way to go.

in ending, perhaps it is high time our Government takes action against these boiler room diploma mills or institutions which offer educational skills very few would need or companies would recognize, and stamp out Visa fraud, by securing our borders and screening Students more thoroughly.

The First step would be to Hire Canadians to do the interview process over in those countries and issue Visas instead of hiring that Countries Nationals who work in our Consulates to do it for us.

As part of our National Anthem goes, "OH Canada, We stand on Guard for Thee".... well most of the time anyways.

Student visa fraud rampant

Foreign students face no risk of deportation if they don't show up for class, report finds

Chad Skelton, Vancouver Sun Published: Thursday, October 02, 2008

VANCOUVER - Canada places so few restrictions on foreign students and the schools that attract them that it has left the student-visa system open to widespread abuse and fraud, according to an internal government review obtained by The Vancouver Sun.

Canada's rules are so lax, the review notes, that foreign students can't be deported even if they never show up for class. "There is no requirement for [foreign] students to actually attend classes despite the fact they are in Canada to study," the report said.

"Students must only show the 'intent' to study in Canada." According to the review, Canada's soft approach is in stark contrast to those of other countries - including the United States and Australia - that actively monitor students once they arrive.

Canada is also one of the few countries that grant permits to attend virtually any institution, whether it's a public university or a private, unregulated English-as- a-second-language school.

Overall, 80 per cent of those who apply to Canada for a study permit get one - including 93 per cent of those from Korea and 99 per cent from Taiwan.

China and India have lower acceptance rates, but Canada still accepts about three-quarters of applicants from those countries.

The review said that since 2002, Canada has adopted an increasingly "facilitative" approach to foreign students - no longer requiring students to attend class, making it easier to extend the length of study permits and allowing students to work for up to two years after they complete their studies.

"While these changes have made the program more attractive to genuine students, it also has opened up the opportunity for non-genuine students to use the study permit as a means to secure work in Canada," the review found.

"It has also opened up an avenue for individuals who are seeking general entry into Canada for an extended period of time to do so under the guise of being a student."

Just this past summer, four Chinese teenagers studying English at BCC Academy in Vancouver were reported missing by their home-stay family.

The case was originally investigated by the police but later handed over to the CBSA after suspicions arose the students had used their study permits to fraudulently enter Canada.

Brother could you spare $3553.38? Each American's Portion of the Bailout

Brother could you spare $3553.38?  Each American's Portion of the Bailout

By Albert N. Milliron, Editor, Politisite.com, Iron Mill Interactive Media

Based on the United States Census Figures from the year 2000, there are 281,421,906 people living in America.  A bit of Math reveals that the Wall Street Bail out which has been framed by our Congress as the Economic Rescue Plan will cost each American $3553.38.  That includes our children.

The reason this piece has the heading as Opinion is that this plan has caused some real strange bedfellows.  On NowPublic Alone I am in agreement with a writer who I rarly agree with.  When was the last time you read that Politisite and Moonwolf were in total agreement on any issue.  The same has occured in Congress as Georgia Congressman Lewis the Here of the Civil Rights Movement who nealy lost his life fighting for freedom of Black Americans in the South and John Culberson, R-Texas.  Folks that would usually vote opposite each other in any other legislation presented on the floor.

I will speak in the first person here.  I disagree with President Bush, Sen. McCain, Sen Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Sen Reid on this measure.

Business fail in the United States all of the time.  There is no bail out for these folks.  The socialization of wall street is a slippery slope that will cause America to fall into the abiss of interveining into the inter workings of the economics.

The rational that is being floated is that if we do nothing, there will be no money for loans for the American people.  I say good!  America has become a debter nation because of our, Have it now pay for it later mentaility.  So what if one cant get a loan for a new car?   Drive that 5 year old car for a few more years.  no loans for new houses.  How about be happy with what one has.  No student loans.  The private sector can give scolorships to those who kept their grades up and are good prospects for eduction.  Most fols who use the student loan system end up paying back tens of thousands of dollars for 10 years after they graduate.

America has become addicted to money they dont have.  Wall street wants to continue the electronic slavery that has occured due to credit.

America used to provide credit at the gas station in whuch you lived.  They new you and you paid them back on pay day.  The grocery stories did the same.  Loans were given at the bank because you did business with them and they knew you.

The decentralization of credit has caused this problem and ones name and repretation means nothing.  I could also go on about the push for every American to have a home of their own.  Previous presidents golated in the statisitics that said home ownership was up under their administration.  The problem was that the push was to put people in home sthat had no assets, no real ability to pay over the long term, and debt to equity ratios way above what was concidered appropriate for one to get a loan.

If you notice, your small lcoal banks are not in trouble.  The reason?  The give loans to folks who have a relationship with them.  They will not give a loan to someone who does not have disposable income that a payment would be more then 1/4 of their over all income.

My Bank, Georgia Bank and Trust, is not in trouble because they do not underwrite loans were folks cant pay them back.  They also know the folks who apply.  The decentralization of mortgages etc. has caused the who process to be impresonal thus the break down.

No what would be the good reason for Americans to reward poor economic behavior?  So folks can get loans?  Maybe it is time for Americans to learn how to buy with cash and save for items.  Maybe even put 20% down on a house so they have an interest in keeping the property.

The bottom line for me is that this break down on wall street will help Americans rethink before they sign away for an item they cant afford.

I am sorry, I am not willing to pay $3553.38 for the failures of Wall Street executives.  I am willing to suffer the conscequences of doing nothing.

Here is a link to the Plan: Economic Rescue Plan

President Bush Makes New Plea for Congress to Pass Economic Rescue

President Bush warned Congress today that the country's economy was at a "very critical moment" and that failure to quickly pass a Wall Street bailout would create "painful and lasting" economic hardship.

The president pleads for "decisive action from the government."

It was the second time in two days that Bush made appearances before the Wall Street markets opened to assure business leaders the government was urgently trying to fashion a rescue plan.

Today's appearance came a day after Congress shocked the Bush administration and Wall Street by rejecting a $700 billion bailout, and traders -- as well as much of the nation and leaders around the world -- held their breath to see what drama today's markets would bring.

Bush said he wanted to assure "our citizens and citizens around the world that this is not the end of the legislative process."

The president called this week "a very critical moment for our economy," and he pointed out to Congress that Monday's stock plunge had cost Americans more than $1 trillion.

SC senators split over economic bailout plan

Even though they’re from the same party, South Carolina’s two U.S. senators don’t agree on the $700 billion economic bailout plan being debated in Washington. Sen. Lindsey Graham says the bailout is a bad choice, but not passing it would be catastrophic to our economy. Sen. Jim DeMint says passing the bailout will worsen our debt and weaken the dollar.

Sen. DeMint says government meddling is at least partly to blame for the crisis it’s now trying to solve. “This is a failure because government injected itself into the free market, created this easy credit, these guaranteed loans, and these loans are what have turned into the bad paper that are bringing all these financial institutions down,” he says.

He says the natural risk that comes with investing built accountability into the system. “But the government has come in and removed that accountability with taxpayer guaranteed loans, and now they’re talking about a trillion dollars more money that we’re going to throw at this problem. And with the debt that we already have as a country, I’m afraid the rest of the world will lose confidence in the dollar,” Sen. DeMint says.

But Sen. Lindsey Graham says he’s got to opt for the bad choice, the bailout, over the catastrophic choice of doing nothing. He says allowing these financial corporations to fail would cause “a catastrophic financial meltdown throughout the nation and eventually the world.”

Not passing the bailout, he says, would have a big impact on South Carolinians. “If we don’t get these bad debts out of the system, then we’re not going to have availability of credit to the average person. That means people are going to lose their jobs because companies are going to fold,” he says.

“So if you’re a South Carolinian in business and you need to borrow money to expand your business, there will be no money available. If you’re trying to get a student loan in the private sector, you may not be able to get any money to go to school. If you’re trying to buy a house, there’ll be no bank able to lend you money. That’s what it means,” he says.

Mysterious Cargo Aboard Iranian Ship Seized by Somalian Pirates Raises WMD Concerns

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

An Iranian ship seized by Somali Pirates this August, in the Gulf of Aden has raised suspicions by the United States when the Somali pirates upon ransacking the ships cargo soon started to drop dead like flies.

Many believe the Iranian Merchant ship the MV Deyanat's suspect deadly cargo was loaded onto the ship from China chemical manufacturers and was heading to Rotterdam.

Judging by the symptoms and recent untimely deaths of the Somali Pirates, it is believed the cargo was carrying radioactive elements.

The US and Iran are in a bidding war to get possession of the Iranian ship. The US has upped the monetary ante with the Somali government intermediaries in an attempt to find out exactly what the cargo contains, and Iran seems desperate to get the ship back.

Two things come to mind, was the deadly cargo to be dropped off in Iran or headed to Rotterdam? And two, perhaps Karma went into play for these Somali Pirates who in recent years prey on any ship which travels in the area, in which Somali Pirates hold for ransom.

I guess the next time Somali Pirates raid a ships Cargo, they should think twice if it comes from Iran. Payback is a Bitch, so it is hard to feel sorry for Somali Pirates and the corrupt governments of Somalia who allow them free reign of the high seas.

If it is proven that the deadly Cargo did in fact come from China, it's nice to know China plays both sides of the fence, with many saying China supports terrorism, such as African countries, while at the same time manufactures made for Terrorism Style Video Games for your local North American Walmart for eager consumers, not to mention what many believe is a subtle form of food terrorism by poisoning us with foods or ingredients laced with a variety of toxins.

Of course all is forgiven when they are caught with a So Sorry for poisoning consumers the world over to our governments. Yet, our Governments continue to let China time and time again to maintain the status quo, that has been ongoing for almost two years, by allowing them to continue to supply our food, including Candies which now have been tested to reveal toxins, which by the way may be the tip of a very high iceberg.

North American Food Manufacturers and Pharmaceutical companies who despite what is still ongoing still buy these ingredients from them, and consumers looking for that smiley face one low price (read Cheap), play Foodie Russian Roulette with their health by continuing to buy from these same China ingredient sourced North American Food Manufacturers.

Karma must be Chinese, cause China seems to be the only winner in all this, and must be making some pretty nice coin for all concerned.

Now finally, if one were to put on their Mel Gibson Conspiracy Theory Tin Foil Hat, one may wonder if this Iranian Cargo, deadly as it is reported to be were to make its way to Rotterdam seaports, what would it be used for?  Who would use it, especially if is deadly as it is claimed.

One could safely surmise if this Cargo was indeed destined for Europe and fell into the wrong hands, say, oh, I dunno , perhaps fall into the hands of  Islamic Zealots in Europe, I would guess it would do a tremendous amount of damage to a large Civilian population in Europe, of North America, much like it has done to these Somalian Pirates.  I am only guessing, as I am not a terrorism expert, Hell I am not even a passable Conspiracy Theorist like Mel Gibson, but then again, stranger things have happened.

Mysterious Cargo Aboard Iranian Ship Seized by Pirates Raises WMD Concerns

As Somali pirates brazenly maintain their standoff with American warships off the coast of Africa, the cargo aboard one Iranian ship they commandeered is raising concerns that it may contain materials that can be used for chemical or biological weapons.

Some local officials suspect that instead of finding riches, the pirates encountered deadly chemical agents aboard the Iranian vessel.

On Aug. 21, the pirates, armed with AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades, stole onto the decks of the merchant vessel Iran Deyanat.

They ransacked the ship and searched the containers. But in the days following the hijacking, a number of them fell ill and died, suffering skin burns and hair loss, according to reports.

The pirates were sickened because of their contact with the seized cargo, according to Hassan Osman, the Somali minister of Minerals and Oil, who met with the pirates to facilitate negotiations.

"That ship is unusual," Osman told the Long War Journal, an online news source that covers the War on Terror. "It is not carrying a normal shipment."

The pirates reportedly were in talks to sell the ship back to Iran, but the deal fell through when the pirates were poisoned by the cargo, according to Andrew Mwangura, director of the Kenya-based East African Seafarers' Assistance Program. "Yes, some of them have died," he told the Long War Journal.

"Our sources say [the ship] contains chemicals, dangerous chemicals." Iran has called the allegations a "sheer lie," and said that the ship "had no dangerous consignment on board," according to Iranian news source Press TV.

Iran says the merchant vessel was shipping iron ore from a port in China to Amsterdam.

Mystery surrounds hijacked Iranian ship

By Nick Grace September 22, 2008 12:20 PM

Written by Nick Grace & Abdiweli Ali, Ph.D.

A tense standoff is underway in northeastern Somalia between pirates, Somali authorities, and Iran over a suspicious merchant vessel and its mysterious cargo.

Hijacked late last month in the Gulf of Aden, the MV Iran Deyanat remains moored offshore in Somali waters and inaccessible for inspection. Its declared cargo consists of minerals and industrial products, however, Somali and regional officials directly involved in the negotiations over the ship and who spoke to The Long War Journal are convinced that it was heading to Eritrea to deliver small arms and chemical weapons to Somalia's Islamist insurgents.

It was business as usual when speedboats surrounded the MV Iran Deyanat on August 21.

The 44468 dead weight tonnage bulk carrier was pushing towards the Suez and had just entered the Gulf of Aden - dangerous waters where instability, greed and no-questions-asked ransom payments have led to a recent surge in piracy.

Steaming past the Horn of Africa, 82 nautical miles southeast of al-Makalla in Yemen, the ship was a prize for the taking. It would bring hundreds of thousands of dollars - possibly millions - to the Somalia-based crime syndicate.

The captain was defenseless against the 40 pirates armed with AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades blocking his passage.

He had little choice other than to turn his ship over to them. What the pirates were not banking on, however, was that this was no ordinary ship.

The MV Iran Deyanat is owned and operated by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) - a state-owned company run by the Iranian military that was sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury on September 10, shortly after the ship's hijacking.

Skate4Cancer Crosses Canada

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

In a world of War, financial Bailouts, Environment and Crime, it is refreshing to see Good News for a Change by a group of Canadians who took the fight against Cancer on a Skateboard crossing Canada and raising funds and Awareness to a Disease which affects all of us. Kudos to these Boarders, carrying on where the likes of Terry Fox and others left off.

http://push.ca/blogs/matthsk/archive/2008/09/29/skate4cancer-crosses-canada.aspx

Skate4Cancer Crosses Canada

Regular visitors to Push have no doubt noticed, and ideally read, the blog from Skate4Cancer founder Rob Dyer. Dyer founded Skate4Cancer at the mere age of 15, when he first dreamt up the idea of skating from Los Angeles, California, to Toronto, Ontario, to raise awareness for cancer prevention. Since then Dyer has tirelessly promoted Skate4Cancer, earning support from both the skate industry and the mainstream media, and reaching out to countless skaters and teenagers with his message.

Dyer, along with a dedicated support crew, started another skate journey this spring. He's skating from Vancouver, BC, to Halifax, Nova Scotia; an estimated 7,000-plus kilometer journey that will be accomplished one push at a time. Having just passed through Toronto, we felt it was time to check in with Rob to get a status report on the tour and gain some insight into just how road-weary he might be.

Photographer Erin Hogue, who's been providing all of the images in Rob's blog on Push, volunteered to interview Rob for us. Since she's been on the tour since it began, we figured there was no one better for the job.

Mounties hunt Alberta teen's killer: 14 year old girl killed in Broad Daylight

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

A pretty young 14 year old child, it is said was surprised by a maniac who jumped out of the bushes in broad daylight and brutally murdered a this young lady, her lifeless body discovered by two boys cycling along the path.

Again, if the murder is caught, it will most likely not be the first time this murderers run-in with the law.

If so, it is time to consider the Death Penalty for those who commit brutal crimes against those, especially children.

Prime Minister Harpers election platform on Crime and Punishment speaks volumes on those who as victims as well as the public who need protection against those who wish to take our lives.

Enough is Enough!

Girl, 14, murdered in broad daylight Manhunt underway after slaying in broad daylight

By MICHELLE THOMPSON, AND TAMAS VIRAG, SUN MEDIA

The Edmonton Sun September 30, 2008

EDSON -- The slaying of a 14-year-old girl, killed in broad daylight on a wooded trail within paces of Edson homes, leaves police imploring witnesses to come forward with tips on the baffling case.

Yesterday, police intensified their hunt for Emily Stauffer's killer as an RCMP helicopter scoured a wooded area for clues.

As many as 20 police officers - some from neighbouring RCMP detachments - were also on the scene.

Stauffer was slain by a man while strolling through a tree-lined walking trail about 4:45 p.m. Saturday, sending waves of shock and fear through the town of about 8,000 residents 200 km west of Edmonton.

"From the few people I've (spoken to) today, it's definitely rocked our community," said Edson Mayor Greg Pasychny. "It's extremely shocking.

It's not something you prepare for." After being attacked, Stauffer was discovered by two boys cycling along the path.

The children rushed to a nearby home for help, but by the time emergency crews arrived, Stauffer was dead. Police said her attacker might have fled the scene on an all-terrain vehicle.

The suspect is about 30, has brown hair, and was wearing a blue jacket and blue pants at the time of the attack.

Mounties hunt Alberta teen's killer

By MICHELLE THOMPSON, SUN MEDIA The Edmonton Sun

EDSON -- Mounties went door to door searching for clues in the baffling slaying of teen Emily Stauffer yesterday as the manhunt for her killer continued.

In a quest to nab the pretty 14-year-old's killer, cops also released a sketch of a person of interest in the case.

Emily left her north Edson home Saturday afternoon, never to return. She was attacked at about 4:45 p.m. on a popular town walking trail bordering trees and houses, but if she screamed during the attack, nobody heard her.

Curiosity drew Jim Lozinski from his north Edson home at about dinner time Saturday, after emergency crews raced to the scene. "We walked down there," he said, gesturing to the spot Emily's body was found, about 50 metres from his home. "They were working on her."

Foreign workers lured with lies: Canada's Shame

Barry Op/Ed

Vancouver, British Columbia, the Province of Tolerance and Multicultural Diversity with all the Tofu Fixins, is one city where those who believe this is Lotusland, soon find themselves in the middle of a swamp of deceit along with what seems the past and present provincial governments blessing.

For instance our Centennial Line, an underground transit system was dug with many Central American labourers who were hired by a Canadian company whose pay scale for Immigrant workers versus Canadian workers it is said was 50% less.

The lower mainland Fruit pickers from India are no more than indentured servants ekeing out slave wages, paid by their own Indo Canadian countrymen, or Richmond BCs Asian community bringing over women from China to work retail or service industry jobs, soon find themselves in a stereotypical $5.00, $5.00, "Me Love You Long Time" Massage or Exotic Dancer Industry.

Certainly not a Happy Ending all these Immigrants thought about when they left the shores of their homeland, lured by those whose promises of Good Money, but a scam by their own Countrymen in Canada whose Culture it seems is quick to take advantage of their own kind.

Ethnic Canadian businesses knowing full well their own countrymen's desperation as immigrants to make a better life for themselves in a country rich like Canada, who line up around the block in their third world country by the thousands to get here.

Many Vancouverittes as they sit down to drink their berry smoothie, go to a restaurant, head to a Tittie Bar, eat their veggies, ride the New Olympic Centennial line in 2010, or get that Massage will not give a second thought the toil and hidden meaning of their pasted smiles by those who bring all these services to them.

Just another case of out of sight out of mind, typical of many in Vancouver with blinders on as they go about their rich daily lives and state "BC is the Mostest, Bestest Beautifulest Place in the World".

It certainly is, for the Businesses who make Money off the Backs of the indentured from parts unknown!

Foreign workers lured with lies HUMAN TRAFFICKING, Canada's National Shame, Part III:

By TAMARA CHERRY, SUN MEDIA

The stereotype is a young woman forced to work in a brothel, strip club or massage parlour. Reality cuts across all walks of life. Nannies.

Construction workers. Seasonal farmers. "Nobody knows the language of human trafficking," says Sherilyn Trompetter, assistant executive director of Changing Together, an Edmonton-based NGO that leads the Alberta Coalition Against Human Trafficking.

Many exploited foreign workers are treated simply as employees in poor working conditions, not as human trafficking victims, Trompetter says, pointing to the case of 30 Polish welders who arrived in Alberta in 2005 and 2006 under false pretences and were paid less than half their expected wages.

"Human trafficking in general in Canada needs to be redefined and it needs to be stated that we've already seen these patterns; these patterns have always existed," she says.

"We're just not calling it what it is."

In a four-part series running across the country this week, Sun Media looks at Canada's hidden trade in people; at the failure of this country to live up to its international obligations on human trafficking, to prosecute human traffickers and meaningfully help victims.

Bailout Fails, Stock Market Tumbles

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The fate of the Bush administration's $700 billion financial bailout plan was abruptly thrown in doubt Monday as a House vote turned against the controversial measure.

The next steps were not immediately clear but supporters were scrambling to put it up for another vote.

What was supposed to be a 15-minute vote stretched past the half-hour mark as leadership scrambled for support. Investors who had been counting on the rescue plan sent the Dow Jones industrial average down as much as 700 points while watching the measure come up short of the necessary support, before rebounding slightly. The key stock reading was down more than 500 points.

The measure needs 218 votes for passage, but it came up 13 votes short of that target, as the final vote was 228 to 205 against. About 60% of Democrats voted for the measure, but less than a third of Republicans backed the measure.

A four-hour debate included impassioned pleas for and against the measure from Democrats and Republicans alike. Even some of those arguing the legislation must be approved were quick to point out problems with it.

Why a Die Hard Conservative will be Voting NDP this Canadian Election!

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

You know at first when I read about "Incompetence Charges" in our local Conservative Candidate I was stunned, since I turned voting age, I have and always been a die hard card carrying Conservative.

This election, this Die Hard Card Carrying Conservative will be tossing his vote for the New Democratic Parties Peter Julian (oh God Kill me now for saying that) Because in all fairness, there is no way in hell I am sending my Vote to someone who is a Conservative Candidate who in my Opinion is a "Incompetent Waste of Space"!

Unfortunately for the NDP, I will always be a Conservative Party member, it is just that I feel when it comes to Competence, NDP Peter Julian is the best man for the job, Hands Down!

I deride the NDP most times in Op/Ed columns when they get outlandish ideas, but at times I do give them credit, where credit is due.  Though I respect NDP Leader Jack Layton on many of his issues, but think one issue, he is clearly out to friggin lunch on is eliminating 51 billion dollars in Corporate Taxes.  One hopes he will be allowed to look at the Canadian Governments Inbox before making ludicrous statements like cutting 51 billion dollars in Corporate Taxes.

My story yesterday on all Political Party Platforms on Crime, shows the NDP leave a lot to be desired, and since I am and always have been a Fiscal Conservative and Law and Order type, I was not impressed with the NDP or the other parties platform, except the Conservatives.

Okay, enough of the above, and I need to get back on topic here about Political Candidates.  In regards to the British Columbia Conservatives and this Conservative Candidate Sam Rakhra and his sidekick Wonk co campaign manager Mr. Robin Dhir who allowed this to happen, both should be fired and never allowed to enter political arenas or even as school trustees.  One can be certain Stephen Harper would slap both upside the head if he knew the facts beforehand.

If I were Harper, and just on Moral grounds, I would take away his riding and leave it empty till the next election as it is too late to get another candidate.

Why the BC Conservative Party let this guy "Rakhra" run for the Conservatives friggin amazes me, what the hell were they thinking?

Just imagine if you will If they ever put this guy in any Ministerial portfolio, we would be screwed. The guy clearly seems to have problems running a small company, imagine a Government ministry with Billions of Dollars at his disposal like Public Works and Government Services Canada?

Layton, Harper, Dion like any leader have to see the big picture and do background research, including their candidates background before appointing them as potential elected members of parliament, and if they do not then, they need to give their "Head a Shake", I know I did, and that is why I am voting for the NDP's Peter Julian, he clearly is the better man, and seems to have a head on his shoulders, is honest, and looks like he will be re elected.

Certainly Mr. Julian shows he cares for us constituents.  I have a group of Conservative like minded friends, who are pissed as well, and will most likely vote for the NDP's Peter Julian as well.

In ending, I always vote for the Person and his abilities first, his political party affiliations second.

Candidate disciplined by real estate council

By Michael McQuillan - Burnaby NewsLeader

Updated: September 26, 2008 4:41 PM

Burnaby-New Westminster Conservative candidate Sam Rakhra, a Surrey real estate broker, has been disciplined three times by the Real Estate Council of B.C.

Sukhmander (Sam) Rakhra was charged in 2004, 2005 and 2008 by B.C.'s real estate regulator. The infractions he was disciplined for include incompetence and professional misconduct. He was recently suspended for six months, ending in early August this year.

Rakhra is a broker and president with Royal Group Tapestry Realty of Surrey. Agents with the real estate company have been disciplined on six other occasions, not including those against Rakhra.

The Conservative Party knew of the infractions against Rakhra prior to the election being called, said his co-campaign manager Robin Dhir.

"It was decided the real estate council dealt with it to their satisfaction and the matter was closed," said Dhir. "He made the party aware of it and I'm not sure if there's anything left to say about it."

Both the Liberal and NDP candidates in the Burnaby-New Westminster riding say news of Rakhra's infractions with the real estate board further erode the public's trust in politicians.

"Politics and politicians don’t need this kind of unfortunate knock—it’s a disservice to Canadian democracy," said Liberal Gerry Lenoski.

"I'm saddened by this in the same way I'm saddened by the problems every party is having, because every party has had candidates stepping down," said the NDP's Peter Julian, the incumbent MP for the riding.

Op/Ed: A Drive by some British Columbia Parents to press to expand Mandarin-based classes

Barry Artiste Op/Ed Like I had previously mentioned in my last column on this issue in what I feel is a "Let's Drive French out of our Canadian Lexicon" I have no problem with kids learning the Mandarin language, but the kids better have a good understanding and fluency of French and English as our Official Language before entering a new Language. Kids have a tough enough time today just getting through school without the added pressure of taking on another language. If my tax dollars are needed for this, I say forget it, let em learn Mandarin in College on thier own Dime, Not Mine~!

Parents press to expand Mandarin-based classesAllison Cross, Vancouver SunPublished: Monday, September 29, 2008

Bilingual Mandarin-language kindergartens should be established in Vancouver public schools to give children an edge in the global community, says a group of Vancouver parents.

"In terms of language learning, at the kindergarten level, there are only two choices: English and French," said Eileen Sue, a member of B.C. Parents for Mandarin.

"We do feel that children learn languages best before the age of nine. They are language sponges." Learning Mandarin will give children an edge, helping them better compete with European students who regularly learn English on top of their native languages in school, she said.

Canada's New Democratic Party Leader Layton unveils $51-billion Platform

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Wow, I am speechless, surely the NDP have the Election in the Bag, I salute Mr. Layton in his 51 Billion dollar plan for helping out all ordinary Canadians.

Jack Layton told his plan to an glowing ecstatic crowd of imbibed Heroin and Crack Cocaine NDP supporters, who most likely all got Naked and slammed umbrellas up their butts in unison while shagging Unicorns.

Because in my Opinion, anyone who would promise such a farcical joke as well as anyone who believes him, has to be on Crack, as for the umbrellas up their arse and the Unicorns, well those are a Barry Artiste Freebie.

What many fail to understand is if Layton were elected and carried out this promise, he certainly would make history, Canada would become a welfare state.

Layton promising freebies or heavily subsidized programs actually would not be needed such as daycare, cause the parents of these children would be shortly unemployed. Why? Do people seriously think like Layton does that Corporate tax breaks benefit the Owner of the company?

In part, just a small portion does benefit corporates in that if more employees they hire through tax breaks, the more successful they will be.

The Tax breaks are to ensure the corporation can hire employees, lots of employees, as well as research and development in order to stay competitive against CHEAP world markets, like in Asia and the Pacific Rim countries who use slave labour and any means to monopolise and flood our markets with cheap, disposable goods.

This will eventually mean NO Manufacturing in Canada for anything, including medicine, food, appliance, clothes, thus our only source of these goods will be at the mercy of Pacific Rim countries like China. Is this what is in store for Canada? Zero Competition, if the only source of goods is outside our country.

Farms are going under at a drastic rate as they cannot compete with world markets. Soon one day soon, we will be relegated to being a Consumer Based Society period!! Though that would be hard to believe, as we would not have any money to buy anything anyways, since most of us would be unemployed except for police and welfare workers!

Hence a Welfare Society! He talks of our failing lumber industry, and that is true, we need to stop selling our raw materials to Asian markets, and sell our lumber as completed products. That would go a long way in boosting our Lumber industry.

The Corporate Tax breaks also entice investment and new business in this Country, such as Honda, Siemens, pharmaceutical research,etc... Take away the Corporate Tax cuts, and businesses will undoubtedly fail, cause if no money to boost employee salaries or to hire them is taken away, that will mean an end to any paycheques for millions and millions of NOW unemployed Canadian Corporate employees, who by the way pay Taxes from those corporate employee salaries to the Government for all the programs we currently enjoy.

The trickle down from that will be the NEW corporate unemployed who will soon default on their mortgages, bankruptcy, Zero Health Care, Mom and Pop stores as well as big retailers would then suffer and downsize or go out of business, so now even morenon corporate people will lose their jobs.

Trust me, though there maybe no easy answers, regardless of the NDP and Jack Layton's statement of easy solutions, without forethought of the consequences that will follow for all of us. And people seriously are considering electing this wonk as the head of Canada? Give me a (Tax) Break!

I used to admire and respect Layton as he at one time had good policies, but now I think he is on Crack, riding that Unicorn of Idiocy, screaming "Give me Crack or Give me Death!"

http://news.sympatico.msn.ca/abc/Election_08/ContentPosting.aspx?isfa=1&feedname=CP_EN_ELECTION&showbyline=True&newsitemid=137646061 Layton unveils $51-billion NDP platform

OTTAWA - NDP Leader Jack Layton has staked his claim as the main alternative to the Harper Tories with a $51-billion campaign platform targeted at ordinary families at the expense of big corporations.

Joan Bryden , THE CANADIAN PRESS

The no-deficit plan released Sunday promises a big new baby bonus, better health care, more daycare spaces, and help for aboriginals and students.

It would be funded largely by rolling back $47 billion in corporate tax cuts brought in by the Liberals and Conservatives. Designed to portray New Democrats as siding with families over big business, the platform would boost federal spending by $8 billion initially, ramping up to $18 billion by the fourth year.

Layton, is hoping the platform - released in time for televised leaders' debates on Wednesday and Thursday - will bolster his claim that he's a serious contender for the prime minister's job.

"There's a sense that this time, in this election, we can really make a difference," he told an ecstatic partisan crowd. "And maybe we can even make a little history."

Canada's Political Parties Lay Out Their Party Platform for Fighting Crime!

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

As I previously mentioned in my other story today on Child prostitution in Canada http://www.nowpublic.com/world/child-prostitution-exposing-canadas-dirty-dark-secret

All Political Parties seem to have their own ideas on how to handle Crime and Punishment if their parties Leader is elected Prime Minister.

Certainly every political parties stance on Crime is an eye opener, when some political parties state they will flood Police Forces with Cash to fight Crime, a nice idea, but more importantly it seems these political parties miss the point entirely.   Police arresting Criminals, most likely will see these same criminals out on bail before the Officers complete all the paperwork.

What political parties need is to be tough on Crime, ensure victims and future victims of crimes are made safe in our lawless society and give Judges that much needed "Slap upside the Head" and inform them to do the job taxpayers pay them to do.

Judges need to Jail em and make sure they do not see the light of day until their release date.

If Judges cannot do it, then they need to be fired immediately, as our laws have long stated what penalties are to be implemented.

Currently many criminals in Canada with over 100 convictions with little jail time served are still walking our streets. This is especially true in British Columbia, touted as the Worlds Criminal Superpower, by one of Canada's National magazines "MacCleans".

Surely that must be a message of the seriousness of the crime situation in this country and courts revolving door justice which ties that bind police forces country wide.

Why arrest em, if we have courts and judges reluctant to jail em? Politicians stating We need to "Ban Handguns, Automatic Weapons" is as Ludicrous as Judges rendering useless sentencing.

All these laws stating the above are and or have been in force for decades.

Politicians Rehashing old crap is useless, Crime and Punishment with severe jail time, much like Handguns and Automatic Weapons have been banned and on the Law Books for decades, to reiterate this point for political gain is stupid to say the least, since we already have a Billion Dollar Liberal implemented Gun Registry in which Liberal think Criminals will march up to the Gun Registry and register their Guns.

What Political Parties need to state, is that they will Inform Judges and Courts to either follow the letter of the law of this land, or get fired, Period! No legal misinterpretations, no double credit for time served while awaiting trial sitting at home. No early parole.

Our Countrys' Laws much like a cookbook recipe leave little room for interpretation or modification if you wish to serve to the public what the legal recipe calls for. Otherwise why have laws on the books if no one follows them, because it looks like Judges and criminals alike don't follow them.

On election day, we will certainly see who acts when elected, and the votes will speak what action they must take. I am going Conservative, no surprise there.

No time for crime?

As politicians unveil their plans to battle violence across our country, it seems many voters aren't as worried about it as they once were -- or maybe we've just learned to tune out the mayhem

By THANE BURNETT, NATIONAL BUREAU

All the spilled blood doesn't seem to dull the spirits of diners around the crime scene. While pressure is applied to a yawning wound on a young man's arm -- a paramedic wraps bandages and police take statements -- customers at the other tables around the restaurant's outdoor patio in downtown Toronto allow bottles of wine to breathe easy and conversations are as warm as the night.

Sgt. Craig Somers of Toronto Police's 51 Division, overseeing the scene where a group of teenagers sliced the victim with a suspected ice pick, is asked by staff whether they can wipe down the bloody table for the next sitting.

It's like a dinner show that everyone, except the players, have lost interest in. We may not be comfortable with crime near to us, but sudden eruptions of mayhem are so expected that it seems Canadians have learned to tune out the sirens and leave it to others to deal with the messy cleanup.

This past week, although many voters aren't fretting over crime issues as they were during the last election, the major federal parties have pulled out promises to keep you safer.

But Carolyn Gardner worries the election may have interrupted needed change. Last April, Gardner and other victims of crime met with Stockwell Day, the Minister of Public Safety, and presented a petition calling for a change so murderers would only have a chance for a parole hearing every five years, rather than the current two.

She hopes they don't have to begin their campaign again because, for them, the clock is ticking. In 1981, Ralph Ernest Power -- a 28-year-old out on the equivalent of statutory release after a previous attack on a woman -- tricked his way into Carolyn's older sister's apartment.

An aspiring Toronto model, Sheryl Gardner was hit with a hammer. When she began to convulse, Power struck her 15 more times. "It was such waste of a beautiful lady ... I only wanted to borrow her for awhile," the killer told the jury during his trial.

CONSERVATIVE Crime and Punishment:

- An overhaul of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

- Giving judges the option to impose life sentences for those 14 years and older convicted of first - or second-degree murder.

- Maximum youth sentences for other serious violent crimes would be stiffened.

- Offenders 14 and older convicted of murder or other violent crimes could be named publicly.

- Crackdown on the use of conditional sentences -- house arrest -- for 30 more serious crimes.

LIBERAL

- A $75-million Communities at Risk program to fund security at ethno-cultural or religious places of worship or schools.

- An $80 million fund to assist police agencies with combating organized crime and gangs.

- Funding to help youth at risk avoid violence.

- New legislation to crack down on Internet luring and cyber-bulling.

- Ban military assault rifles.

- Measures to combat the "root" causes of crime, such as rehabilitation and poverty.

- Retain the federal firearms registry.

NDP

- 2,500 more police officers on the streets.

- Re-classifying auto theft as a violent offence.

- Allow first-degree murder charges for gang-related homicides.

- Give provinces and cities the ability to implement an absolute ban on handguns.

- Invest $25 million over four years to strengthen witness protection and $50 million a year for crime prevention.

BLOC QUEBECOIS

- Focus on armed street gangs, organized crime and drug dealers. Gang symbols would be made illegal and special training would be provided for street-gang prosecutors.

Bloc would also end early parole for drug dealers.

GREEN PARTY OF CANADA

- Legalize and tax marijuana.

- Look at ways of tackling root causes of crime, rather than punishment.

- Ways for the guilty to make reparations to their victims.

Child Prostitution: Exposing Canada's Dirty, Dark Secret

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Certainly a dirty little secret held in many countries, where the availability of children for money knows no limits, and penalties for those who indulge or trade in human flesh is minimal at best compared to what the child goes through for the rest of their life.

Conservative Prime Minister Harpers Crime Bill to slam home "Serious time for Serious crimes" in regards to the "Sex Trade and Child Porn among other like minded criminal crimes had previously fallen on deaf ears in the Liberal Majority Senate, with some bills passing, and some bills left on the table.

Some Liberal politicians and other political parties as well as some Canadians feel the Prime Ministers Crime Bills are too Draconian and should be tempered with rehabilitation, hugs and kisses.

Below is my story link on our Canadian Political Parties Stance on Crime this election season. Certainly once you see who is serious and who is pussyfooting over rehashing old useless crap that isn't working when the once Ruling Liberal Government implemented it.

http://www.nowpublic.com/world/canadas-political-parties-lay-out-their-party-platform-fighting-crime

The last decade and a half under Liberal Rule will attest to the fact using their formula of Kid Glove treatment for Criminals and revolving door justice with little regard to the victims has been one is one Liberal experiment that has not and never has worked.

The Political Platform the Conservatives are basing a large part of their election strategy on is Crime and Punishment.

Let's hope Canadians vote with their common sense minds instead of being bombarded with  "Long Worn Out One Trick Pony Political Platforms and Nancy Diatribes" like "Global warming", "Gas prices" "Free Trade", "We hate Bush", "Hybrid Cars", "War in the Middle East" yadda, yadda, blather, slurp, gulp, swallow, gag, etc by the Greens, NDP and Liberal opposition Politicians who want to change the subject, and avoid "Less Groovy Subjects" like "Victims Rights and Crime Bills"!

Canadians only have to pick up a paper, watch television to see a more serious threat such as "Child Flesh peddlers and the Drug Trade" are amongst more serious crimes like gang wars which are hitting us all at home in all cities across Canada should be one in the forefront from all parties, but seem to only be a Crime and Punishment Mandate with the Conservatives.

In ending, I truly hope this young lady gets her one true wish, that her ex-Pimp meets prison justice before he is released. Now that is a wish we can all agree upon. Because let's face it, we are not all victims, until it happens to us. But it seems many Canadians wait till it happens to them and their family before they act, much like celebrities and politicians who when struck with a life threatening illness or tragedy, all of a sudden see the light and make it their life's mission to tell the world, unlike ordinary victims who have neither the money, media cache or political platform to do so.

Canada's blind eye Exposing our nation's dirty, dark secret

By TAMARA CHERRY, SUN MEDIA Sun, September 28, 2008

Eve was working at a fast food restaurant when one of her "regulars" walked in. It had been months since Eve escaped from two and a half years of sexual slavery -- sold to a dozen men a day, around the clock and through her period, every penny passed to her trafficker. "I started hyperventilating.

I just freaked out. Because I don't want anything to do with them and it brings flashbacks back," Eve, whose name has been changed to protect her identity, says of the encounter during a recent interview about her human trafficking case.

"The feelings come flooding back in. Feeling scared.

Feeling like I just want to get out of there. Nervous. Uncomfortable. Hurt." Eve was 12 when she ran away from foster care and ended up in an escort agency.

From agency to pimp to pimp she went until she met the man who pleaded guilty in May to trafficking her. She speaks a little louder than she did six months ago, just three months out of the flesh trade then.

And today her hair is yet another colour, yet another style.

Lots of changes since she was held up at gunpoint in that motel room just outside Toronto, a moment that jerked her past the threats of her trafficker and into a police station.

Pastors to Endorse Candidates from the Pulpit on Sunday

 By Albert N. Milliron

On Sunday, September 28th a test of the First Amendment will ring from Churches all over the United States.  Pastors will compare the Biblical record with the two candidates running for president.  Some will endorse a candidate based on what the Bible says.  The First Amendment has two parts

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

That congress can make no law respecting the Establishment of Religion or the free exercise of Such.  The next part is regarding the Freedom of Speech.  It has been established that churches cannot inject itself into the political process or they will lose tax exemption status.  Many feel that this is a pure violation of the first Amendment that allows for the free exercise of such and freedom of speech.  Congress is to make no law regarding this amendment.

Churches enjoy tax exemption due to the Establishment Clause in the constitution.  Many feel that if a pastor or church endorse a candidate they cross the line by mixing church and state.  The Amendment does not allow for the State to interject itself into the Church.  There is no provision prohibiting the Church from interjecting itself into the political process.

The Term Separation of Church and State is not found anywhere in the US Constitution.  It is taught in schools and universities.  The Amendment was established to make sure that the United States does not adopt a State religion as was the case in England.  Folks came to America from England and Germany to get away from a Church who ruled state affairs.

On Sunday, Pastors in 22 states will put the first Amendment to test.  Many in the Government state that they are jeopardizing their tax exempt status

Why don't churches pay taxes?

In its 1970 opinion in Walz vs. Tax Commission of the City of New York, the high court stated that a tax exemption for churches "creates only a minimal and remote involvement between church and state and far less than taxation of churches. [An exemption] restricts the fiscal relationship between church and state, and tends to complement and reinforce the desired separation insulating each from the other." The Supreme Court also said that "the power to tax involves the power to destroy." Taxing churches breaks down the healthy separation of church and state and leads to the destruction of the free exercise of religion.

The church has an allegiance to ones God. This was a matter that was an issue in the First Century Church. During the First Christianity became illegal and the Caesar required the inhabitants to recognize him as god. Many Christian died because it would not bow to Caesar as their god as their allegiance was to the God of the Bible.

If the Bible has provisions that are forbidden one might think it the responsibility of the Church to exercise its freedom of speech and Religion to share with ones congregation that candidate X does not support the Biblical record.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Pastors participating in the Alliance Defense Fund’s “Pulpit Freedom Sunday” will preach from their pulpits Sept. 28 about the moral qualifications of candidates seeking political office.  The pastors will exercise their First Amendment right to preach on the subject, despite federal tax regulations that prohibit intervening or participating in a political campaign.

“Pastors have a right to speak about Biblical truths from the pulpit without fear of punishment.  No one should be able to use the government to intimidate pastors into giving up their constitutional rights,” said ADF Senior Legal Counsel Erik Stanley.  “If you have a concern about pastors speaking about electoral candidates from the pulpit, ask yourself this:  should the church decide that question, or should the IRS?”

Pulpit Freedom Sunday is an event associated with the ADF Pulpit Initiative (www.telladf.org/church), a legal effort designed to secure the First Amendment rights of pastors in the pulpit.  A document explaining what the Pulpit Initiative is and is not is available at www.telladf.org/UserDocs/WhatIsPI.pdf.

“ADF is not trying to get politics into the pulpit.  Churches can decide for themselves that they either do or don’t want their pastors to speak about electoral candidates.  The point of the Pulpit Initiative is very simple:  the IRS should not be the one making the decision by threatening to revoke a church’s tax-exempt status.  We need to get the government out of the pulpit,” said Stanley.

Stanley explained that, contrary to the misunderstandings of many, tax-exempt status is not a “gift” or “subsidy” bestowed by the government.

“Churches were completely free to preach about candidates from the day that the Constitution was ratified in 1788 until 1954.  That’s when the unconstitutional rule known as the ‘Johnson Amendment’ was enacted,” explained Stanley.  “Churches are exempt from taxation under the principle that there is no surer way to destroy religion than to begin taxing it.  As the U.S. Supreme Court has noted, the power to tax involves the power to destroy.  The real effect of the Johnson Amendment is that pastors are muzzled for fear of investigation by the IRS.”

After Sept. 28, ADF plans to provide via news release a list of pastors who participated in Pulpit Freedom Sunday.

In 1954 then Senator Johnson offered an amendment that was passed.  The Amendment was inserted into the  IRS code with out any debate or discussion.  The Johnson Amendment shaped the IRS code for more then 50 years.

In 1954, Congress saw the need to separate charities and churches from politics. An amendment was offered on the floor of the Senate by then-Senator Lyndon Johnson.

The Johnson amendment is found within the well-known section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. In its present form, the law states that charities, including churches, are not allowed to “participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements) any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.”

Freedom of speech and religious liberty are essential elements of our democracy. But the Supreme Court has in essence held that tax exemption is a privilege, not a right, stating, “Congress has not violated [an organization’s] First Amendment rights by declining to subsidize its First Amendment activities.”

The rule against intervention by charities and churches in political campaigns has been entrenched in the law for over a half-century. Congress enacted the law. The Courts upheld it. Our job at the IRS is to educate the public and charities about the law and to enforce it in a fair and evenhanded manner.

In 2004 the IRS began enforcing the Politiking by Churches and found some 84 groups that violated the, "Code".

Sunday's action will cause Johnson's Amendment that found itself in the IRS code challenged.  The expectation is that the court will be interjected into the question.  The Internal Revenue Service will be challenged if it has a right under the consitution to prohibit free speech in religion both of which were not to be infringed or a law made to limited either.

Just one thought, what would be the reason the framers would put the Freedoms of Speech, Press, and Religion within the same amendment?  Could it be that the people, press, and religion be the forth componet of a free state.  To call into question its activities?

Government Bailout is a big Mistake

Washington – The Club for Growth condemned the massive government bailout proposed by the Treasury and the Bush administration as unnecessary, unfair to taxpayers, and fraught with serious costs to the American economy.

Eighteen months into the credit crunch, many largely capitalized financial services firms are experiencing serious difficulties but the overall economy continues to grow. GDP growth over the past 12 months was 2.25 percent and 3.5 percent when excluding the drag imposed by the housing sector. Even within the financial sector, many banks are doing well. Regional bank indices had risen significantly since the lows of last July—prior to the bailout announcement—and thousands of community banks are thriving. It is extraordinary that a massive government intervention in the economy is considered inevitable when the economy is not even in a recession.

At the same time, socializing economic risks come at a great cost to the American economy by misallocating capital, inviting political manipulation, and putting taxpayers on the hook for possibly a trillion dollars. Such a large takeover by the government will surely be accompanied by adverse, unintended consequences. Already, other companies and industries are lining up at government’s door asking for their own bailout. And if the government incurs $700 billion in debt to finance the purchase of bad bank assets, the danger that it will eventually monetize that debt and trigger dramatic inflation is very worrisome.

“The Treasury’s bailout proposal will likely cause more harm than good,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “Instead of launching the largest government bailout since the Great Depression, the government should be implementing policies to stimulate the economy. These include, at a minimum, cutting the tax on capital gains, cutting corporate taxes, reviewing and considering repeal of FAS 157 which requires banks to mark-to-market most securities, and emphasizing the need for a strong dollar.”

“Finally, many politicians are using the current struggle to make free-market capitalism the scapegoat for the economy’s troubles, when in fact, government played a major role in getting us into this mess in the first place. Free-market capitalism is alive and well, and we should be embracing its tenets, not rejecting them.”

Black history program considered: Montreal, Quebec

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Black History, normally the domain of American Schools may finally be reaching Quebec Schools.

Quebec's larger than most Black immigrant population from French speaking African and Haitian countries will give youth insight on Black Canadians contributions in Canada, and though US schools Black History which dwell also on the slave trade in that country in the 19th century, may well be omitted in Montreal as Canada was a country in which Blacks fleeing the slave trade  made their way through the underground railway, settling in Canada to make a life for themselves and their future generations. Montreal being one of the more culturally epicentres.  But then that is why Montreal is Montreal.

Quebec has also a slew of Kick Ass Canadian Black hockey players who played for the Montreal Canadians for kids to revere, and most Hockey Fans know them as easily as they breath.

Certainly Black history classes one better showcase these guys, well except for the one or two Black players who play (ed) with the Toronto Maple Leafs, cause let's face it "the Leafs Suck Donkey Dink!"

Canada's Governor General  The Honourable Michaëlle Jean was born in Port au Prince, Haiti. Ms. Jean's parents immigrated to Canada with her family in 1968, fleeing the dictatorial regime of the time.

Our Governor Generals past history and accomplishments as our Queen's representative certainly will give students studying Black History a semblance of pride in being Canadian.

In ending, beside beauty and brains, she is outright a total babe, but that is another topic, not politically correct, but damn, ya got to meet her in person before you judge me. I did.

Our Governor General is also the Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces, unlike the USA in which the President is their Commander in Chief.  Once you meet her, you will clearly see why our Armed Forces would go into battle for her and our country. Try and get that Troop response with G.W Bush!

Black history program considered

The English Montreal School Board paved the way for the possibility of several new programs in its network including after-school black heritage programs.

But the recommendation adopted by EMSB commissioners on Thursday night is "nowhere near what we asked for," said Rev. Darryl Gray, who is part of a group that has advocated the creation of a black-focus school.

Immigrants aren't as law-abiding, Calgary Tory claims

A recent Tory candidate getting roasted over his comments, has many wanting his Head for not kowtowing to the rules of Political Correctness. Opposition Political parties are salivating at the political brownie bit in their quest in calls for his resignation.

Truth being, what he says is true, but only partially.  It is not immigrants per say who are the cause of some of these crimes, but more so their children, whether they are Canadian born or not, disillusioned, poverty stricken, and most likely just plain lazy to study in school or earn a living and feeling out of place in a Canadian Culture, many of these kids feel a cultural kinship with their like minded brethren and form or join gangs. That is just the way it is.

Having a MTV culture and Movie Culture which glorifies Gang violence, bling, bling, HO's and drugs and money doesn't help when the "Have Nots" want what their Gang idols in the music and movie industry have.

Somalian youth in Ottawa with their penchant for machetes hidden in their pant legs frequented the streets and high schools looking to jack goods off citizens, though usually they would prey on their own kind.

Asian gangs, in BC, particularly Vietnamese especially would venture into gang mentality and criminal enterprise, Guatemalan gangs violence and drugs at one time in New Westminster are a way of life.

This is just a small percentage of Immigrants children who feel it is better to steal than earn a honest living. Montreal and Toronto's Haitian community are much the same as the rest. These cultures grew up in horrendous countries whose norm was rob and kill to earn your keep.

The East Asian Gangs in Surrey, BC have their niche in the drug trade as well, much to the displeasure of their parents who try and make a life for their children the best they can, like most immigrants.

Big cities breed gangs, small towns rarely do.

Many forget that in the dirty 30's , 40's and 50's Italian, Jewish and Irish Gangs were the norm as children of immigrants from these cultures(Most living in poverty) in large cities would forge city blocks as their own criminal territory, preying on other immigrants trying to make a living.

Movies in the 1930's based on Bootlegging, extortion, money and fast women didn't help these kids either , much like todays Culture.

So in ending perhaps, this Tory candidate should have gone into more detail and not grouped all Immigrants as Criminals, when in fact it is their children and today's "Gang Culture" who most likely are to blame.

There was or is a push to settle immigrants in small towns instead of big cities to reduce the gang mentality, as small towns normally are not thought of a "Crime central", for the most part immigrants prefer Big Cities for employment opportunities and where cultural ghettos seem to prevent immigrants into integrating into Canadian Society.

Hells Angels grew from a culture of Air Force pilots in World War II disenfranchised with society after the war, were looking for the Thrill that was lacking when in Combat, motorcycles gave them that thrill as well as the camaraderie that gang Culture mentality brings, similar to a military unit of Brothers in Arms.

Todays Hells Angels are nothing like the Brando style Wild Ones on Motorcycles roaring through small towns harassing the small two citizens.  Guess this was before the Canadian and American Legions were formed, where booze, food and retelling war stories was good enough.

Certainly not what Immigration was meant for when "Assimilation into Canadian Culture" seems to be a dirty word among the politically correct society and those politicians looking for that Ethnic Edge in Votes who continually monopolize on Immigrant fears.

If Kids are so fascinated with Guns and Gang Mentality, at least join the Military where at least you can get something out of it and get paid for it.  You may turn out better than you thought possible.

Immigrants aren't as law-abiding, Calgary Tory claims

Jason Fekete, Canwest News Service Published: Friday, September 26, 2008

CALGARY -- Opposition parties are demanding Calgary Conservative incumbent Lee Richardson resign for suggesting that immigrants are to blame for much of the crime in Canada.

In an interview with a Calgary weekly newspaper, Richardson is quoted as saying many crimes aren't committed by people who "grew up next door" and immigrants aren't as law-abiding. "Particularly in big cities, we've got people who have grown up in a different culture, and they don't have the same background in terms of the stable communities we had 20, 30 years ago in our cities . . . and don't have the same respect for authority or people's person or property," Richardson told Fast Forward Weekly, when asked about recent gun violence in Calgary.

BC Schools: Mandarin & English, "BC's Official Language" ? "Or Did we just lose a Friggin War?"

Barry Artiste Op/Ed

Regardless that Canada's Official Languages are English and French, Media reports of frustrated parents who are tired of long lineups trying to enroll their kids into French immersion in schools, and with little Success. Now it seems that some are trying to persuade BC Schools to take a look at Mandarin for Kids, in what many see as a replacement for French.

Wonder how many parents will be lining up at the crack of dawn to enrol their kids in Mandarin Immersion courses? How about None!

And ya know, ya wonder why Quebec is so pissed at Canada when all Quebec wants is their own Gateway for the last 400 years into Canada and Confederation as a Founding Father and French Culture. Once again it seems Quebec would be pushed aside by their "Cullottes" by Miss "Let's all Live in Peace and Harmony's" Pamela Drakos, who is spearheading this impending political disaster, who takes it upon herself to be BC's Spokesperson for  Culture, just not our Canadian Culture, mind you, but a Gateway of Culture some 10,000 friggin miles away!  I ask you, "Did we just Lose a Friggin War"?

I have a spear for Ms. Drakos and invite her to sit on it~!

Lower Mainland school boards mull inclusion of MandarinCheryl Chan, The ProvincePublished: Friday, September 26, 2008

Some kids in the Lower Mainland could be learning pinyin along with their ABCs should proposals for a bilingual Mandarin language program for primary school kids push through.

Parent group Mandarin for B.C. Schools has submitted two separate proposals to the North Vancouver and Vancouver school boards for a 50-50 Mandarin and English program for kindergarten and Grade 1 and 2 students.

"There is no Mandarin at this level in all of B.C. and that's really embarrassing because we are the gateway to the Pacific," said Pamela Drakos, who is spearheading the initiative in North Vancouver.

Only 30% of Americans Want a Wall Street Bailout

Only 30% of U.S. voters think the federal government should step in to rescue the country’s troubled financial markets, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

A sizable majority (63%), in fact, are worried that the federal government will do too much to respond to the current woes. The survey was taken Wednesday night, even as President Bush was making a nationally televised address urging Congress to pass the $700-billion taxpayer-backed bailout plan proposed by his administration.

A week ago, just 49% were worried the government would do too much.

Just 25% now fear the federal government will not do enough. That figure is down from 36% last week.

Half of voters (50%) say it’s better for the government to let the companies that made financial mistakes go bankrupt (see crosstabs).

The findings echo a survey earlier this week that found voter opposition to the bailout plan was growing, even though voters still expected Congress to pass it.

Investor confidence, meanwhile, fell this morning to the lowest level ever recorded by the Rasmussen Investor Index. But even though the meltdown in the housing market is largely to blame for the present economic situation, 66% of voters still believe buying a home is the best investment most families can make.

Fifty-one percent (51%) of investors also think the government should let troubled companies go bankrupt versus 29% who support government intervention in the financial markets. Two-thirds of investors (66%) worry the government will do too much.

Man Dies in Winnipeg Emergency Room after waiting 34 Hours

Is this what socialized health care would bring?

A man who was in the same hospital waiting room as Brian Sinclair says he told nurses and security workers he was concerned about Sinclair -- but says he was told they were too busy to check on him.

Brian Sinclair, 45, died while waiting 34 hours for care at the Health Sciences Centre in what some are now calling the worst emergency room failure in Manitoba's history.

The witness -- who spoke to CTV News on the condition his identity be withheld -- said he was in the waiting room Friday evening. Sinclair, who had previously had both his legs amputated, was sitting nearby in a wheelchair. He looked like he was sleeping.

The witness said when he returned to the waiting area the next night, the man was sitting in the exact same position and looked like he hadn't moved, so he decided he should tell someone.

"I don't think he's asleep, so we went to tell a nurse." said the witness, who was there with his wife. "The nurse said we'll go and check, [but] nobody ever went and checked on him. We waited another hour or so and we told another nurse twice to go and check." The witness said the nurse told him she was too busy and couldn't check right away.

The witness claims he told a security officer of the man's condition, but said the guard told him the case would be "too much paperwork."

Obama Grant to Aide under Investigation

A $100,000 grant that then-Illinois State Senator Barack Obama awarded in 2001 to a group headed by a one-time campaign volunteer is under investigation by the Illinois attorney general.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the grant was intended for a botanical garden in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, but the garden was never built and the money may have been misspent. Records obtained by the Sun-Times show $65,000 of the grant went to the wife of Kenny Smith — an Obama campaign volunteer for his failed congressional run in 2000. Smith heads the Chicago Better Housing Association which was in charge of the project.

Records show Smith wrote another $20,000 in grant-related checks to a construction company that his wife created five months after work on the garden was supposed to have begun.

No deal reached at White House, officials say

Alabama Senator Richard Shelby came out of the meeting and said there is NO Deal.  He also raised his hand holding 5 pages of copy that related that this plan wont work.  He related to reporters that the statements he was holding came from top economists from Major Universities that don't have a dog in the fight figuratively speaking.

Both Obama and McCain left the meeting without speaking to reporters.   One within the talks stated that the meeting, "did not end well".

Will McCain make the debate?  Well, based on his commitment to work toward a resolution on the Bail-out plan, McCain may be in Washington for awhile.

Update: 8:18 pm ET- (I am writing as I am listening to the News confernce via satellite, I will fill in the quotes once I get all the names) House GOP law makers are doing an interview in Capital.  They do not think that 700 billion dollars is nessessary.  GOP wants Wall Street to pay for Insurance for this bail out.  Wall street should pay for this bail out not the American people.

Wall Street is reponciple, not the American People.  The American people do not want to foot the bill.  Why did not the government work to know this was going bad.  The American people feel like, if the Government couldn't know about the problem, how can they know that a bailout will work.

GOP says, it should not be a Paulson Plan or no plan.  There is very little reaching over party lines as has been stated.

Update: 8:02 pm ET- Congressman Barney Frank stated in a news conference minutes ago,  in the Capital, that John McCain's presents at the meeting today is causing problems that will delay furition of a bailout deal.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- President Bush was unable to seal a deal between Republicans and Democrats on his $700 billion mortgage rescue plan, officials said. "It was not a negotiating session," said House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer. The two presidential candidates, Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barak Obama, attended the meeting but left the White House without talking to reporters. A revolt among House Republicans appears to have emerged as the key stumbling block. Hoyer said that some plans have recently been put on the table that even Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson hasn't seen. "On our side, there is a consensus on how to go forward, we'll have to see if that consensus can grow," Hoyer said. It was up to Bush to talk to Republicans, he added

Dodd Says Rescue Plan Talks Snagged After White House Meeting

By Ed Chen and Julianna Goldman

Sept. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Negotiations on a $700 billion financial-rescue plan hit a snag after a White House meeting that included presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd said early this afternoon that he and a group of Republicans reached an agreement in principle on a financial rescue plan.

Following the meeting at the White House, Dodd said an alternative Republican plan was being floated that threatened to set back the negotiations.

The White House meeting ``looked like a rescue plan for John McCain for two hours, and it took us away from the work we were trying to do today,'' Dodd said on CNN.

Biden: McCain ‘posturing’, Obama showing Leadership

"Unlike all the rest of the people talking," said Biden, "[Obama's] demonstrated that he's changed the tone. He will prepare to change the tone in Washington. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what we mean by leadership, not posturing."

The Delaware senator said McCain's proposals for the bailout don't sufficiently address middle class concerns, notably the housing crisis.

"He laid out what he thought the package should include," said Biden. "I looked it over and what's notable is what's not in the package. The silence on issues relating to the middle class is deafening in the package John has put forward. There is no help in his package for families struggling to stay in their homes."

"Fundamental Agreement" Reached On Bailout

Christopher Dodd, speaking moments ago:

We believe that we're prepared to act expeditiously on a package to our colleagues that will allow us to send a message to the markets that the congress heard the message, and we want to do what's correct and right in the next few days. We can't say exactly when. We've reached a fundamental agreement on a set of principles. One, for taxpayers, which is tremendously important. We're giving the Secretary the authority he will need in order to act and the funding that he will need. We also have dealt, I think, effectively with the issue of effective oversight, with home ownership, of preservation, as well as executive compensation. And in anticipation of your questions, we're not going to go into the details. Clearly, we now need to meet with the Treasury Department and go over these principles which we've agreed on among ourselves and obviously go back to our respective caucuses to talk with them as well.

Bill Clinton: McCain Request to Delay Debate done in Good Faith

ABC News' Nitya Venkataraman Reports: Former President Bill Clinton defended Sen. John McCain's request to delay the first presidential debate, saying McCain did it in "good faith" and pushed organizers to reserve time for economy talk during the debate if the Friday plans move forward.

Appearing on Good Morning America Thursday, Clinton told ABC News' Chris Cuomo that McCain's push to postpone the debate would only be a good political move if both candidates agreed. McCain announced on Wednesday that he would "suspend" his presidential campaign to come to Washington to help negotiate a financial bailout bill "We know he didn't do it because he's afraid because Sen. McCain wanted more debates," Clinton said, adding that he was "encouraged" by the joint statement from McCain and Sen. Barack Obama.

"You can put it off a few days the problem is it's hard to reschedule those things," Clinton said, "I presume he did that in good faith since I know he wanted -- I remember he asked for more debates to go all around the country and so I don't think we ought to overly parse that."

If the debate moves forward as planned for Friday night, Clinton says "they should be able to talk about this some of the debate because it is a security issue."

Gallup Daily: Race Back to a Tie at 46% Each

Gallup Daily Tracking poll takes issue with the 8 percentage point spread related by other polls this week.  This poll was taken prior to John McCain suspending his campaign.  It shows a tie between Obama and McCain.

PRINCETON, NJ -- John McCain has gained ground and is now tied with Barack Obama among registered voters in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update for Sept. 22-24, with each candidate getting 46% support.

xrgvwac7s0oqpmlwhv49pw

This update covers interviewing conducted Monday through Wednesday, and as such includes one night after McCain's announcement that he was suspending election campaigning and flying to Washington to help seek a bipartisan solution to the financial crisis. A night by night analysis of interviewing results, however, does not suggest that McCain had a dramatically better night against Obama on Wednesday. Instead, the data show that McCain has been doing slightly better for the last three days than he had in the previous week, and with some strong Obama days falling off of the rolling average, the race has moved to its current tied position. This is the first report since Sept. 13-15, in which Obama did not have at least a one percentage point edge.

Five arrested in shooting death of Augusta, GA man

Authorities arrested five Augusta teenagers tonight in the fatal shooting of a Grovetown man during what police described as a home invasion.

According to police, an unnamed 14-year-old boy and the following others now face a charge of murder in the death of 33-year-old Ricky Gibson: Willie Bernard Butler, 19; Martin Holmes, 17; Karnbi Octavious Young, 19; and Patrick Booker, 19.

Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins said Mr. Gibson was pronounced dead at 3:29 a.m. after being shot multiple times in his home at 410 Williams St. in Grovetown. Mr. Gibson, his girlfriend and their baby were in the home when men came to the door and forced their way in, Mr. Collins said. Mr. Collins said Mr. Gibson’s girlfriend and the baby escaped while being held on the front porch and heard Mr. Gibson’s screams followed by gunshots inside.

Neither the girlfriend nor the baby were struck by bullets fired in her direction as she fled the single-wide trailer, the coroner said. She was able to call 911.

The investigation is being conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Grovetown Department of Public Safety. Grovetown police Capt. Gary Owens referred all questions to GBI Special Agent in Charge Gary Nicholson, who said earlier today that he didn’t yet know the reason behind Mr. Gibson’s death.

“We’re looking at everything, but it’s way too early to know right now,” he said.

House To Launch Investigation Into Rep. Rangel

WASHINGTON (CBS) ― CBS 2 has learned the House of Representatives will conduct an inquiry into Rep. Charles Rangel, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

The ethics committee of Congress announced they established a subcommittee to investigate Rangel, who has already been in plenty of hot water recently.

One stunning part of the determination is that the committee decided to investigate his use of congressional stationery in three separate years to seek donors for a public policy institute in his name at City College.

The committee will also investigate Rangel's use of four rent-stabilized apartments leased in the Lenox Terrace apartment complex in Harlem, the financing of the beachfront villa leased in the Dominican Republic, and his questionable storage of a late-model Mercedes Benz in the house garage.

In a statement the committee said it will determine whether Rangel "violated the Code of Official Conduct, or any law, rule, regulation or other standard of conduct applicable to his conduct in the performance of his duties."

Misleading Obama Attack Ad On Stem Cell Research

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) today issued the following statement on Barack Obama's misleading new radio ad on stem cell research, which is airing in the Philadelphia suburbs:

"The fact is John McCain has been a champion for stem cell research, which holds the promise of curing devastating diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart disease. John McCain bucked the majority of our party in standing strong with me in urging the Bush Administration to lift restrictions on stem cell research, and last year voted to overturn the Bush policy.

"Delaware Valley voters deserve the truth: On stem cell research and so many other issues, John McCain is a maverick who always puts his country first. As president, he'll advance the cause of potentially lifesaving medical research that can free families from the fear and devastation of illness."

Democrats to let offshore drilling ban expire

Democrats have decided to allow a quarter-century ban on drilling for oil off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to expire next week, conceding defeat in a months-long battle with the White House and Republicans set off by $4 a gallon gasoline prices this summer.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., told reporters Tuesday that a provision continuing the moratorium will be dropped this year from a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running after Congress recesses for the election.

Republicans have made lifting the ban a key campaign issue after gasoline prices spiked this summer and public opinion turned in favor of more drilling. President Bush lifted an executive ban on offshore drilling in July.

"If true, this capitulation by Democrats following months of Republican pressure is a big victory for Americans struggling with record gasoline prices," said House GOP leader John Boehner of Ohio.

Democrats had clung to the hope of only a partial repeal of the drilling moratorium, but the White House had promised a veto, Obey said.

In gaffe, Biden said FDR led when market crashed

WASHINGTON - Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says today's leaders should take a lesson from the history books and follow fellow Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt's response to a financial crisis.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened,'" Barack Obama's running mate recently told the "CBS Evening News."

Except, Republican Herbert Hoover was in office when the stock market crashed in October 1929.

FDR was elected three years later when voters denied Hoover a second term. The Democratic challenger appealed to the "forgotten man" by promising a "new deal" to solve the Depression era.

PETA Asks Ben & Jerry's to use Human Milk- YUCK!

Burlington, Vt. - This morning, PETA dispatched a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of ice cream icon Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace the cow's milk in their products with human breast milk. PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves. PETA points out to Cohen and Greenfield that such a move on their part would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health at the same time.

"The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn't make sense," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Everyone knows that 'the breast is best,' so Ben & Jerry's could do consumers and cows a big favor by making the switch to breast milk."
